David Richard Gallery will present 'Wavelength,' the gallery's second solo exhibition for artist Beverly Fishman. Brightly colored and optically active, the new paintings on stainless steel challenge both the viewer's visual perception and susceptibility to the seduction of contemporary advertising. Betty Cuningham Gallery has announced an exhibition of new paintings and drawings by John Lees. This will be the artist's third solo show at the gallery. It will run today, May 16 through June 22, 2013, with an artist's reception tonight, the 16th, from 6 to 8 p.m.
APAC Announces BLOOD BROTHERS Extension

THE ASTORIA PERFORMING ARTS CENTER (APAC) is pleased to announce the one-week extension of Willy Russell's (Educating Rita and Shirley Valentine) BLOOD BROTHERS, musical staging by Christine O'Grady, musical direction by Julianne B. Merrill, and directed by Tom Wojtunik. After playing to sold-out audiences and receiving critical acclaim, such as John Simon remarking, 'A tasteful revival of a worthwhile show, which you will want to catch whether or not you have seen the musical before,' BLOOD BROTHERS will extend a week at the Good Shepherd United Methodist Church (30-44 Crescent St, Astoria, NY 11102. Entrance on 30th Road). Performances began Thursday, May 2 and will now continue through Saturday, May 25. Opening Night was Saturday, May4 (8 p.m.).

Artadia has announced that Meg Cranston is the winner of the 2013 Artadia NADA New York Award. In partnership with the New Art Dealer's Alliance, Meg Cranston will receive an unrestricted $4,000 cash award for her artwork entitled “Emerald City.” The award is generously funded by NADA and Artadia.

The producers of the Tony Award-nominated play ORPHANS announced yesterday that the Broadway production will play its final performance on May 19 after 27 previews and 37 regular performances at the Gerald Schoenfeld Theatre (236 West 45th Street). Ten local actors are hard at work in rehearsals for The Laramie Project: Ten Years Later by Moises Kaufman, Leigh Fondakowski, Greg Pierotti, Andy Paris and Stephen Belber. The show will be performed at The Wesley Arena Theatre, 271 East 9th Street, Cookeville under the direction of Kathleen Gilpatrick on Saturday, May 4 at 8:00 p.m. as part of the day long Upper Cumberland Pride Festival celebration. Performances will continue on Thursday through Saturday, May 9, 10 & 11 also at 8:00 p.m. All tickets are $10.00 per person except for Thursday, May 9 which is a pay-what-you-can-performance. Thursday, May 9 tickets will not be sold in advance - they will only be available at the door. Tickets are currently on sale at Art a la Carte Gallery, 121 West Broad Street, Cookeville. Tickets will also be available at Upper Cumberland Pride on May 4 from 1-7 pm at Dogwood Park and at the door the night of the performances. The show produced by UC Pride, United Church of Christ and Stan Rodriquez, is an epilogue to The Laramie Project, which was performed in 2006 at the Wesley Arena Theatre also under the direction of Kathleen Gilpatrick.
