Survey Shows Most Candidates for Governor & Legislature Would Support Arts Education

The majority of candidates for Arizona Governor responding to a survey relating to arts, culture and arts education favor additional support for arts and culture activities in the state. Most legislative candidates responding to the same survey would gradually restore pre-recession funding for the Arizona Commission on the Arts (ACA), and expressed support for arts education in Arizona's K-12 schools.

OSF to Present THE GREAT SOCIETY, Follow-Up to Robert Schenkkan's ALL THE WAY, 7/27

The Oregon Shakespeare Festival (OSF) will open Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award-winning playwright Robert Schenkkan's The Great Society at 1:00 p.m. Sunday, July 27 in the Angus Bowmer Theatre. The Great Society was commissioned by and co-produced with Seattle Repertory Theatre and developed through OSF's American Revolutions: the United States History Cycle and the Orchard Project.

The Center for Civil and Human Rights is Now Open in Atlanta

The Center for Civil and Human Rights, a new center that brings together the history of the American Civil Rights Movement and international human rights efforts, opened this week in Atlanta. David Rockwell and his award-winning firm Rockwell Group designed the Center's exhibitions in collaboration with George C. Wolfe, The Center's chief creative officer for The Center's civil rights gallery, and Jill Savitt, curator for human rights gallery.

Vice President Joe Biden, Dr. Jill Biden, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, President pro tempore of the Senate Patrick Leahy, House Majority Leader Elect Kevin McCarthy, House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel, National Security Advisor Susan Rice, actress Debbie Allen, members of Congress and other distinguished guests attended the Ford's Theatre Annual Gala the evening of Sunday, June 22, 2014, at Ford's Theatre (511 10th Street NW). The gala performance was followed by a seated dinner at the National Portrait Gallery and Smithsonian American Art Museum (750 Ninth Street NW). The evening included the presentation of the Ford's Theatre Lincoln Medal to actor James Earl Jones and the U.S. House of Representatives' longest-serving member, The Honorable John D. Dingell. The award was given in recognition of their extraordinary character, service, accomplishments and work reflecting Lincoln's legacy of humanity, wisdom, eloquence and vision.
