The New York Philharmonic will present New York Stories: Threads of Our City, January 14-27, 2019, two weeks of concerts and events examining New York City's roots as a city of immigrants. It will center on the World Premiere of Julia Wolfe's Fire in my mouth, co-commissioned by the New York Philharmonic, which reflects on the New York garment industry at the turn of the 20th century and the 1911 Triangle Shirtwaist Factory fire, which killed 146 garment workers, most of them young immigrants. New York Stories: Threads of Our City will also feature a program of new chamber music by composers influenced by their time in America; a special guided tour of the Tenement Museum featuring Philharmonic musicians; an archival exhibit featuring materials from the New York Philharmonic Archives, The Forward, the Museum of the City of New York, and the National Archives at New York City; and a free Insights at the Atrium event.

The Old Globe today announced the complete cast and creative team for the Globe's 21st annual production of Dr. Seuss's How the Grinch Stole Christmas! The holiday musical will run November 3 - December 29 on the Donald and Darlene Shiley Stage in the Old Globe Theatre, part of the Globe's Conrad Prebys Theatre Center. Previews run November 3 - November 7. Opening night is Thursday, November 8 at 7:00 p.m. The Grinch is directed by James Vasquez, with book and lyrics by Timothy Mason and music by Mel Marvin. Netflix has secured the rights to an original pitch from writer Tom Wheeler (The Lego Ninjago Movie) currently entitled John Henry and The Statesmen, developed with Hiram Garcia, President of Production (Seven Bucks Productions). The film will be directed by Jake Kasdan and star Dwayne Johnson in a follow up to their incredibly successful Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle.

The fantasy drama follows Nathan, a young autistic man struggling with his teenage opiate-addicted sister, and how they risk it all to find a kingdom that once existed only in their imaginations. Written and directed by Olicer Muñoz, the coming-of-age tale stars Madison Ford, Jacob Lince, Sarah Assumma, John Henry, and Peter Mendoza. Lince is one of the first autistic actors with a lead role in a narrative feature – a huge accomplishment for the autistic community and their supporters.
