The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts today announced national awardees of the Kennedy Center American College Theater Festival. Individuals from across the United States are recognized for outstanding work from the eight regional festivals that were held January 7 through March 1, 2014. Selected awardees and representatives will be brought to Washington, D.C. for an expense-paid trip to participate in the 46th annual Kennedy Center American College Theater Festival (KCACTF), April 14-19, 2014.
Washington National Opera (WNO) presents An Evening with Paul Appleby and Joshua Hopkins in Recital, an evening of story and song featuring the stars of WNO's forthcoming production of The Magic Flute, Sunday, April 6, 2014 in the Kennedy Center Terrace Theater. Accompanied on piano by Natalia Katyukova, Mr. Appleby and Mr. Hopkins will share tales from their lives as young opera singers and perform songs, arias, and duets from popular works by Mozart, Donizetti, Bizet, Rossini, Mendelssohn, Sondheim, and more. All three artists make their WNO debuts with this performance.

Washington National Opera (WNO) today announced two free special events in conjunction with its forthcoming production of The Magic Flute. WNO celebrates its sixth season of free opera simulcasts at Nationals Park with the M&M'S® Opera in the Outfield performance of Mozart's classic The Magic Flute on Saturday, May 3, 2014. Gates open at 5 p.m. for “pregame” activities for the entire family. The Magic Flute, which will be performed in English in a new eye-popping production featuring sets and costumes by Japanese-American artist Jun Kaneko, will be broadcast live from the Kennedy Center Opera House to the high- definition screen at the ballpark at 7 p.m. WNO will also present a free exhibition of large-scale ceramic works by Mr. Kaneko in the Kennedy Center Hall of Nations, April 9 to May 19, 2014.

Students from the Humphreys School of Musical Theatre (HSMT) will perform in four nationally distributed choreography DVDs for the Music Theatre International (MTI) Broadway Junior collection of musicals. The news was announced today by Theatre Under The Stars (TUTS) and educational musical theatre consultancy firm iTheatrics. iTheatrics, which is based in New York City, is producing the DVDs, which will feature original choreography by its chief choreographer, Steven G. Kennedy.

Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts today announced its 2014- 2015 theater season today, including the pre-Broadway engagement of Gigi featuring a re-envisioned book by Heidi Thomas with direction by Eric Schaeffer. The Kennedy Center will also produce the world premiere musical Little Dancer with book and lyrics by Lynn Ahrens, music by Stephen Flaherty, and direction and choreography by Susan Stroman; touring productions of Evita, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, and Once; and back by popular demand following its record-breaking six week engagement in 2013, the multi-Tony Award®-winning musical from the creators of South Park, The Book of Mormon, will return for a limited engagement. Much like the ocean waters in which the show's title character resides, Washington National Opera's production of Moby-Dick is a bit choppy at times but is nevertheless an imaginative and soaring production. Transferring Herman Melville's 1851 novel into an opera is not an enviable task by any means. Yet, by reframing the story and having it be told in an active voice, rather than the novel's narrative tone, composer Jake Heggie and librettist Gene Scheer have created a solid work, complete with a gorgeous score, stunning vocals and an eye catching visual design.

JetBlue Airways today added a once daily nonstop service from New York's John F. Kennedy International Airport to Piarco International Airport in Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago. On May 1, additional nonstop service from Fort Lauderdale will commence, increasing JetBlue's offering to two daily flights between the U.S. and Trinidad and Tobago. To celebrate the airline's newest route, flights from New York to Port of Spain are on sale from $169 one way (a) for travel between March 13 and June 12, 2014 (blackout dates April 9, 2014 through April 29, 2014).
