When John Dean told the Senate Watergate committee about a luncheon meeting and 'an enormous amount of gold' held by clients of attorney F. Lee Bailey at White Sands Missile Range, the White House/White Sands connection was made. The authors allege documents and eyewitness testimony point to the theft of more than $1 billion during the Thanksgiving weekend in November 1973. Shortly after the theft was reported, FBI Agent Herb Greathouse was assigned to investigate. Clarence and Whittle allege that Greathouse's ostensible probe 'was used in a cover-up of the theft.' As the authors note, 'the question is whether or not Greathouse was under orders to suppress information and turn the investigation away from Nixon. If so, were the orders initialed by Nixon himself?'

John Clarence and Tom Whittle, co-authors of The Gold House trilogy, say that a 1981 article in The Investigator magazine, published by American newspaper columnist Jack Anderson, may have been the first published source to identify the role of President Lyndon Johnson in a multibillion-dollar gold theft. The article, authored by Whittle, was entitled 'The Treasure of Victorio Peak.' Whittle's sources claimed that Johnson showed a burning interest in the treasure-discovered in New Mexico in 1937 by 'Doc' and Ova Noss-and had attempted to recover it. However, Clarence contends, 'Richard Nixon was involved to a point we hear about it in the Watergate scandal.'
The Gold House trilogy, a book series by John Clarence and Tom Whittle, allege Nixon's involvement in a massive gold theft during his time as President. The books present documents, reliable sources, and official Watergate testimony by John Dean as persuasive arguments.
Hundreds of exclusive interviews, affidavits, money-laundering agreements, military records, bank letters, FBI reports and other documents support the allegations made. “Investigating the crimes was an eight-year effort,” say the authors, investigative journalists John Clarence and Tom Whittle. While some investigated this issue before, none were successful in presenting the volume of evidence necessary to put forth a convincing argument until now.
