The Lark Announces A BareBones Workshop of THE WAY WEST, 11/2-11

From the Lark Play Development Center's BareBones® workshop program that supported Katori Hall's THE MOUNTAINTOP, Rajiv Joseph's BENGAL TIGER AT THE BAGHDAD ZOO, and Kristoffer Diaz's WELCOME TO ARROYOS, the Lark announces a BareBones® workshop of THE WAY WEST by Mona Mansour, directed by Linsay Firman. The workshop runs at Lark's BareBones® Studio from November 2 - 11 at 311 West 43rd Street in New York City. Tickets are $10, $12, and $15 and are available at www.larktheatre.org.

The Lark Play Development Center Names Playwrights’ Workshop Fellows

The Lark Play Development Center named five New York City-based dramatists as Playwrights' Workshop Fellows for the 2012-13 season. The group spans a wide range of cultural backgrounds and professional experiences and will meet regularly through June to develop new plays.

Rogelio Martinez Named Lark Mid-Career Playwright Fellowship Recipient

The Lark Play Development Center announced Rogelio Martinezas the inaugural recipient of the Lark Mid-Career Playwright Fellowship. This award is a new addition to a growing portfolio of fellowships at the New York City-based playwrights' laboratory that are designed to ensure economic stability for playwrights at transformative junctures in their careers. Effective immediately, the fellowship will last for two years and provide Martinez with financial support, creative resources and professional advocacy. This program is made possible with leadership support from the New York City's Theatre Subdistrict Counciland contributions from individual donors.

Jackie Sibblies Drury Announced as Lark Play Development Center's Jerome New York Fellowship

The Lark Play Development Center announced that Jackie Sibblies Drury will be the inaugural recipient of the Jerome New York Fellowship for 2012-2014. Lark's program is made possible by the New York City's Theatre Subdistrict Council and is the first Jerome Fellowship in New York City supported by the Minnesota-based Jerome Foundation.The Foundation has also supported several well-known fellowships at The Playwrights' Center in Minneapolis.The fellowship is part of an ongoing, long-term plan by the Lark to implement a portfolio of fellowships and programs that provide economic stability for playwrights.

Lark Play Dev Center Announces U.S./México Playwright Exchange Program

The Lark Play Development Center in collaboration with Mexico's National Fund for Culture and Arts (FONCA) is pleased to announce the 2011 U.S./México Playwright Exchange Program. For the sixth year the Lark will host playwrights from México and pair them with U.S. playwrights, actors, and directors for a ten day cultural exploration which establishes ongoing channels of communication between artists in both countries. This year's partners include Borderlands Theater (Arizona), Repertorio Español (New York), and the Mexican Cultural Institute.

The Lark Play Development Center hosted a special event on October 11th celebrating playwright Katori Hall on her Broadway debut with The Mountaintop. (The Mountaintop was extensively developed at the Lark.) Lark board member and playwright Sandi Goff Farkas was also honored at the October 11th event with the first every Lark Risktaker Award for her creation of the Playwrights of New York (PONY) Fellowship. The Risktaker Award recognizes the leadership, vision and commitment of an individual who has defied convention in making a major contribution to supporting daring new voices in the American theater.
