Gotham Chamber Opera presents the U.S. Stage Premiere of Baden-Baden 1927: a staged evening of four one-act operas that appeared together at the Baden-Baden Festival in 1927, from October 23-29, 2013 at the Gerald W. Lynch Theater.

Pearl, a new opera in development, was inspired by Nathaniel Hawthorne's The Scarlet Letter, a story of love, condemnation, betrayal and acceptance in which protagonist Hester Prynne secretly conceives a child with the Reverend Dimmesdale. In this modern retelling, Pearl, the child born of the scandal, presents the story from her point of view as an adult woman, a mother and a writer. The story's characters struggle with the central question, "How can love be sin?"

ASPS (Art Song Preservation Society), will present a concert in conjunction with their first annual Summer of Song Series led by Baritone, Michael Weyandt, and International Piano Collaborator, Thomas Muraco today, June 20 at 7pm at Opera America (330 7th Avenue). The Art Song Preservation Society is New York's premiere Art Song Organization that serves the New York City area by creating opportunities and performance in the genre of classical art song vocal literature.

UK theater company Cheek by Jowl returns to BAM with a new production of John Ford's Jacobean drama 'Tis Pity She's a Whore, presented in its U.S. premiere. A violent and bloody tragedy-and one of the most controversial plays in the English canon-it tells the tale of an incestuous love between Giovanni and his sister Annabella that ends in disaster and death. 'Tis Pity takes place against a backdrop of lust, vengeance, greed, and corruption.
