An earth-shaking collection of indigenous-feminist performers, bands and performance art groups gathered at La MaMa on Tuesday for an impassioned celebration of Spiderwoman, the world's longest-running Native American theatre company, and one of America's longest continuously active feminist performance collectives. The International Committee of the League of Professional Theatre Women (LPTW), in a co-presentation with the Martin E. Segal Theatre Center, will honor Adelheid Roosen (The Netherlands) with the Gilder/Coigney International Theatre Award (GCITA) on Monday, October 23, 2017, at the Graduate Center, CUNY, 365 Fifth Avenue, with an all-day immersion (10:00am to 8:30pm) into Roosen's life and legacy.

Five theatre directors are slated for the fifth Sundance Institute | LUMA Foundation Theatre Directors Retreat, which convenes in Arles, France, August 25 through September 7. The Retreat is one of 24 residencies and Labs the Institute hosts annually across the world, and is an integral part of the Theatre Program's ongoing engagement with global theatremakers.

Theater Breaking Through Barriers celebrates the 50th anniversary of The Ridiculous Theatrical Company with the first Off-Broadway revival of THE ARTIFICIAL JUNGLE by Charles Ludlam. It is directed by Everett Quinton, who co-starred in the 1986 premiere and was the Artistic Director of The Ridiculous from 1987-1997. Inspired by Yoko Ono's iconic 1964 'Cut Piece,' 'Cut Piece for Pants Suit,' a performance in response to the 2016 election created by directors JoAnne Akalaitis and Ashley Tata in collaboration with a group of women theater artists, will take place at Madison Square Park at noon on December 19, the day of the Electoral College vote.

East West Players (EWP), the nation's longest-running professional theatre of color in the country and the largest producing organization of Asian American artistic work, announces the hiring of three new staff members for the positions of Arts Education Director, Public Relations and Marketing Manager, and General Manager. The new hires arrive at a significant time for the organization as EWP's fourth Artistic Director Snehal Desai, who assumed his role on July 1, 2016 following an extensive nationwide search conducted by the Arts Consulting Group, paves the way for EWP's future growth.

La MaMa begins its 55th season of innovative works from around the world - 70 productions in all - with its 2016 Puppet Series featuring a variety of fully-staged productions, a puppet slam, a workshop for kids and conversations with leading artists in the realm of puppetry from September 24 to November 6, occupying La MaMa's numerous stages in the East Village.
