Regent Theatre Celebrates Centennial This Year

? In 1916, World War I was well underway and German Zeppelins were bombing Paris.  Charlie Chaplin had just been signed to his first film contract, Mary Pickford became the first female film star to sign a million-dollar contract, and Babe Ruth and the Boston Red Sox beat the Brooklyn Dodgers in the 13th World Series.

Based on the smash hit 2003 film of the same title, School of Rock: THE MUSICAL, with music from the movie, as well as an original score by Andrew Lloyd Webber and lyricist Glenn Slater, a book byJulian Fellowes and direction by Laurence Connor, made its World Premiere on Broadway last night, December 6, at the Winter Garden Theatre. Through out the past week, BroadwayWorld has been brinigng you coverage of the 67th Annual Emmy Awards with a decidedly theatre-specific focus, and tonight will be no different. Directed by Jonathan Kent with book by Arthur Laurents, Gypsy has music by Jule Styne, lyrics by Stephen Sondheim suggested by the memoirs of Gypsy Rose Lee, choreography by Stephen Mear, designs by Anthony Ward, musical direction and orchestration by Nicholas Skilbeck, lighting by Mark Henderson and sound by Paul Groothuis.
