The 2013 Season is the year that Broadway and Hollywood meet at The Way Off Broadway Dinner Theatre. For its 19th Anniversary Season, the theatre has a line-up of shows that were hits both on the silver screen and on the Broadway stage. The first of these blockbuster shows, which will open the theatre's new season, is STEEL MAGNOLIAS, one of the most funny and heartwarming plays ever to appear on the stage. As 2012 comes to a close, many Austin theater companies are putting together their 2013-2014 season. Given the incredible talent in this town and the large number of daring, courageous theater groups in the Austin area, here are my picks for 13 musicals that I'd love to see produced in the 2013-2014 season.

Weddington Street Productions in association with Summerwind Productions presents Christmas My Way - A Sinatra Holiday Bash! starring Luca Ellis, Jason Graae, Heather Lee and Beth Malone; directed by David Grapes with musical direction by Vince di Mura. The holiday celebration will be tonight, December 15 - December 31, 2012, with a special New Year's Eve performance on December 31, at the historic El Portal Theatre Mainstage in the NOHO Arts District, North Hollywood, CA.

'They have over 357 years of successful theatre between them,' said director and moderator John Bowab of Patricia Morison, Anne Jeffreys, Pat Marshall, Jane Kean and Charlotte Rae, during the recent 'Musical Mondays' production held in the historic lobby of Los Angeles' Pantages Theatre and benefitting The Actors' Fund. Broadway legend Andrea McArdle has two new albums set for release on Broadway Records. The first, '70s and Sunny: Live At 54 BELOW', was recorded during her triumphant debut at the new Broadway hotspot 54 BELOW and will be released today, December 11, 2012. The second recording, 'Calendar Dream', is an exciting new project that teams Andrea up with a stellar array of Broadway's most awarded writers to journey though a year of a woman's life.

Tonight, December 7, TheatreWorks New Milford will debut the hilarious musical tribute written in the spirit of "Forbidden Broadway," THE MUSICAL OF MUSICALS (THE MUSICAL!) with music by Eric Rockwell, lyrics by Joanne Bogart, and book by Rockwell and Bogart. Curtain goes up at 8:00 p.m. on this five-week run.

Spotlighters presents MAME!, running Nov 23 - Dec 23, 2012 and featuring book by Jerome Lawrence and Robert Edwin Lee, music & lyrics by Jerry Herman. It is directed by Allan Herlinger with musical direction by Michael Tan and choreography by Jillian Bauersfeld.

This play reading series at Lynn is being expanded into a much more ambitious program, where actual workshops will be produced that give playwrights the chance to bring in a new play and work with a cast and a director for six days - rehearsing, re-writing, rehearsing, rewriting. Then, at the end of the six days, they will present their new, polished, reworked play to the public, in performance.
