5th Annual Big Green Theater Festival Begins Today at Bushwick Starr

The Bushwick Starr will present BIG GREEN THEATER (BGT), an annual eco-playwriting program and green theater festival celebrating environmental education, sustainability in the arts, and community enrichment. This marks our 5th anniversary of BGT, and we are thrilled to herald this special year by doubling the program, which we now offer in TWO Bushwick public schools: PS123 and PS075, reaching more students, artists, and audiences than ever before.

Elena Araoz Named Drama League's First Beatrice Terry Artist in Residence Fellow

The Drama League, Tony Award winning-director and Drama League Alumnus, Michael Mayer (Hedwig and the Angry Inch), and Gretchen M. Michelfeld, have chosen Elena Araoz as the first recipient of the newly established Beatrice Terry Artist in Residence Fellowship, named in honor of the late Beatrice Terry, Ms. Michelfeld's partner and alumna of The Drama League Directors Project. An all-star advisory board made the selection after reviewing hundreds of applications with the official announcement made by two-time Tony Award-winner Judith Light and Ms. Michelfeld during last night's 31st Annual Musical Celebration of Broadway Honoring James Earl Jones held at the famed Pierre Hotel (2 East 61st Street).

Site-Specific DEAD BEHIND THESE EYES Set for Sing Sing Karaoke, Begin. 8/29

Performances of Dead Behind These Eyes will take place at Sing Sing Karaoke (81 Avenue A) on August 29-31 at 7.30pm and September 3-5, 7, 10-14 and 17-19 at 7.30pm Tickets are $18 and can be purchased by calling 212.352.3101 or visiting www.abronsartscenter.org. Bushwick Starr's 4th Annual BIG GREEN THEATER FESTIVAL Set for 4/26-27

The Bushwick Starr will present BIG GREEN THEATER, an annual eco-playwriting program and green theater festival celebrating environmental education, sustainability in the arts, and community enrichment.BIG GREEN THEATER (BGT) is an annual community based program that brings the youth of Bushwick directly in touch with the professional world of theater. For a four-month period every year, The Bushwick Starr works with a group of 5th grade students after school, teaching them a combination of playwriting and environmental education. This in-classroom portion of our program is lead by Jeremy Pickard of Brooklyn based eco-theater collective, Superhero Clubhouse. Each year, we partner with Bushwick's PS123 5th grade class; a wonderful and lively group of 10-11 year-olds, who throughout the program, write the original environmentally themed plays presented at the BGT Festival. These plays are performed by an ensemble of professional actors, directors, and designers using only green theater methods (recycled materials for sets and costumes, fluorescent and LED lighting, paperless programming and ticketing, etc.).

The Wild Project Presents SATURN, Now thru 9/9

Now playing at The Wild Project beginning tonight, August 30 and running through Sunday, September 9th, is SATURN (a play about food), written by Jeremy Pickard, directed by Sarah Hughes, with Tyler Caffall, Tom Coiner, Ava Eisenson and Maria Portman Kelly.

The Wild Project Presents BETWEEN THE SEAS Festival thru 8/26; SATURN, 8/30-9/9

Now playing at The Wild Project through Sunday, August 26th is the BETWEEN THE SEAS FESTIVAL OF MEDITERRANEAN PERFORMING ARTS. More than 250 Eugene O'Neill Theater Center alumni gathered at The Players Club in New York City on Monday evening, February 1 to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the O'Neill's National Theater Institute. Joining the party were alumni from NTI and its Moscow Art Theater Semester and Theatermakers programs, as well as alumni from the O'Neill's renowned summer Conferences: National Playwrights Conference, National Music Theater Conference, National Puppetry Conference, Cabaret & Performance Conference and National Critics Institute.

Columbia Stages presents Big Love, written by Charles L. Mee and directed by Pirronne Yousefzadeh, running February 18th - 21st, 2009, at The Riverside Theatre, located in the historic Riverside Church at 91 Claremont Avenue between 120th and 122nd Streets.
