Oratorio Society of New York Coming to Carnegie Hall, 5/5

The Oratorio Society of New York is in its 142nd season as the city's standard for grand choral performance, and its tenth with its current music director, Kent Tritle. Celebrating the culmination of their landmark season together and, as it happens, emergence from a frigid and stormy winter, Tritle and the OSNY will present two life-affirming works for their spring concert: the ardent, hopeful Chichester Psalms of Leonard Bernstein, which will be conducted by the OSNY's associate conductor, David Rosenmeyer (also marking his tenth season with the group), and Carl Orff's spirited, bawdy Carmina Burana. Soloists Jennifer Zetlan, soprano; Peter Tantsits, tenor; Takaoki Onishi, baritone, and the Choristers of the Cathedral of St. John the Divine join the OSNY on Tuesday, May 5, 2015, at 8:00 pm, at Carnegie Hall.

Academy of St. Martin in the Fields Comes to MPAC Tonight

The Academy of St. Martin in the Fields, one of the finest chamber orchestras in the world, performs at Mayo Performing Arts Center tonight, March 27, 2015 at 8 pm. Tickets are $39-79. Acclaimed soloist Jeremy Denk will be special guest on piano.

Minnesota Opera Music Director Michael Christie leads the world premiere performances of The Manchurian Candidate, today, March 7–15, 2015in the Ordway Music Theater. Christie is recognized as “ … a top-notch conductor of new works …” by the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. Based on the novel by Richard Condon and directed by Kevin Newbury, The Manchurian Candidate traces the mysterious story of an American soldier decorated during the Korean War who is brainwashed into becoming an unwitting assassin in a conspiracy to overthrow the U.S. government. This taut and suspenseful thriller is the highly anticipated second opera by composer Kevin Puts and librettist Mark Campbell, creators of the Pulitzer Prize-winning Silent Night.

Bridgehampton Chamber Music Festival to Inaugurate 'BCMF Spring' with Two Concerts

Long Island's longest-running classical music festival launches a new spring series this year. The Bridgehampton Chamber Music Festival, which since 1984 has taken place every summer in the beautiful seaside setting of the island's East End, will inaugurate BCMF Spring with two Sunday concerts, on March 22 and April 26, 2015.

The University Musical Society (UMS) heads into spring of its 2014-2015 season with an eclectic March line-up. The month of performances begins with jazz guitarist Bill Frisell performing a rare and intimate solo-guitar concert (Thursday, March 12), followed by a performance by Bill Frisell and his band When You Wish Upon a Star, featuring Petra Haden, Eyvind Kang, Thomas Morgan, and Rudy Royston (Friday, March 13).

Bela Fleck to Perform with The Knights at Schimmel Center, 1/28

On Wednesday, January 28, banjo legend Béla Fleck will join Brooklyn's own innovative chamber orchestra, The Knights, at Schimmel Center at Pace University to kick off a seven-state East Coast tour. The concert features the title track of the orchestra's brand new album, being released on January 26 on Warner Classics, The Ground Beneath Our Feet, a group composition that was written collaboratively by the members of the ensemble and is named after the Baroque ground bass that inspired it. Additional repertoire includes Rossini (overture and Se il mio nome spaer voi bramate, both from The Barber of Seville) and John Adams (Chamber Symphony).

Steven Stucky's THE CLASSICAL STYLE to Make New York Premiere at Carnegie Hall, 12/4

When Pulitzer Prize-winning American composer Steven Stucky's first opera - The Classical Style: An Opera (of Sorts) - premiered at the 2014 Ojai Music Festival, it was hailed as 'a dazzling display of inventiveness and broad comical delight' (San Francisco Chronicle) that, thanks to 'the bliss and beauty of the music' (San Jose Mercury News), 'proved unexpectedly moving' (Santa Barbara Independent). Composed to a libretto by MacArthur Fellow Jeremy Denk, Stucky's comic opera - a co-commission of Carnegie Hall, Cal Performances, and the Ojai and Aspen Music Festivals - is now set to receive its East Coast premiere. On December 4, The Classical Style comes to Carnegie's Zankel Hall, where Grammy Award-winning conductor Robert Spano leads a stellar octet of vocal soloists, five of whom have been nominated for the inaugural Warner Music Prize, and New York-based orchestral collective The Knights -dubbed 'the next generation of classical music' (Performance Today host Fred Child) - in a semi-staged production by Mary Birnbaum.

LA Chamber Orchestra Welcomes New Board President, Members

The Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra, one of the nation's leading orchestras renowned for its wide-ranging repertoire and adventurous commissioning initiatives, has named attorney Dana Newman President of the Board of Directors, announced LACO Executive Director Rachel Fine. The Altadena resident succeeds Gene Shutler, who assumes the role of Chairman of the Board after completing a three-year term as President. Fine also announced the appointment of four new board members to three-year terms: Ahsan Aijaz (Los Angeles), vice president, Fortress Investment Group; Leslie Lassiter (Beverly Hills), Los Angeles market manager, J.P. Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra (LACO) showcases the virtuosic skills of Steven Isserlis, 'one of the world's leading cellists' (The Guardian), performing Haydn's radiant Cello Concerto No. 2 under the baton of sought-after Scottish conductor Douglas Boyd, making his LACO debut, tonight, October 18, 2014, 8 pm, at Glendale's Alex Theatre, and Sunday, October 19, 2014, 7 pm, at UCLA's Royce Hall.
