San Francisco Conservatory of Music (SFCM) today announced initial details on another exciting program that has become part of the Conservatory: the first biennial writing institute in the United States solely devoted to classical music criticism, offering invaluable insight, feedback and observations by distinguished journalists to university-level writers in both a public and private setting.

The Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra, one of the nation's leading orchestras renowned for its wide-ranging repertoire and adventurous commissioning initiatives, has named attorney Dana Newman President of the Board of Directors, announced LACO Executive Director Rachel Fine. The Altadena resident succeeds Gene Shutler, who assumes the role of Chairman of the Board after completing a three-year term as President. Fine also announced the appointment of four new board members to three-year terms: Ahsan Aijaz (Los Angeles), vice president, Fortress Investment Group; Leslie Lassiter (Beverly Hills), Los Angeles market manager, J.P. Morgan Private Bank; Raulee Marcus (Long Beach), president, Pinnacle Management; and attorney Shaheen Nanji (Pacific Palisades), principal, Integrated Technologies Group and community leader.

Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra (LACO) showcases the virtuosic skills of Steven Isserlis, 'one of the world's leading cellists' (The Guardian), performing Haydn's radiant Cello Concerto No. 2 under the baton of sought-after Scottish conductor Douglas Boyd, making his LACO debut, tonight, October 18, 2014, 8 pm, at Glendale's Alex Theatre, and Sunday, October 19, 2014, 7 pm, at UCLA's Royce Hall. Boyd also conducts Mozart's stately 'Haffner' Serenade and opens the program with At First Light by George Benjamin, considered among Britain's greatest living composers.

Esa-Pekka Salonen returns to the New York Philharmonic to conduct Beethoven's King Stephen Overture; Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 1, with pianist Jeremy Denk in his Philharmonic debut; and Stravinsky's The Firebird (complete), tonight, October 16, 2014, at 7:30 p.m.; Friday, October 17 at 8:00 p.m.; and Saturday, October 18 at 8:00 p.m.

Artistic Directors David Finckel and Wu Han have announced plans for The Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center's 45th anniversary season. The 2014-2015 Season offers an extraordinarily vibrant palette of diverse and innovative programming performed by a vast and impressive roster comprised of 109 of the world's finest chamber music artists. Music Director Robert Spano and the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra (ASO) will open the 2014-15 season on September 25, 2014, at 8:00 p.m. Additional performances will take place September 27, 2014, at 7:30 p.m. and September 28, 2014, at 2:00 p.m. These concerts will mark the beginning of the Orchestra's 70th season and the 14th year of artistic partnership between Mr. Spano and Principal Guest Conductor Donald Runnicles.

Gifted pianist Jeremy Denk - the recipient of a 2013 MacArthur 'Genius' Grant and this year's Avery Fisher Prize - will perform Beethoven's elegant and soulful First Piano Concerto with the Music Academy of the West's Academy Festival Orchestra under the baton of guest conductor Edward Gardner at the Granada Theatre in Santa Barbara tonight, July 12. Also featuring Strauss' Also sprach Zarathustra and Suite No. 2 of Ravel's Daphnis et Chloe, the concert will begin at 8 pm. Tickets start at $15.

The 2014 New York Philharmonic Concerts in the Parks, presented by Didi and Oscar Schafer, will return for the 49th season with five free outdoor concerts, conducted by Music Director Alan Gilbert, in Prospect Park, Brooklyn (today, July 9); Cunningham Park, Queens (July 10); the Great Lawn in Central Park, Manhattan (July 11 and 14); and Van Cortlandt Park, Bronx (July 15). In addition, New York Philharmonic musicians will perform a Free Indoor Concert at the Center for the Arts, College of Staten Island, CUNY (July 13).
