Variety reports that Zendaya is currently in talks to join Tony Award winner Hugh Jackman in the upcoming P.T. Barnum biopic THE GREATEST SHOWMAN ON EARTH.

Porchlight Music Theatre and Artistic Director Michael Weber are proud to present the Chicago premiere of Far From Heaven, book by Richard Greenberg, music by Scott Frankel and lyrics by Michael Korie and starring multi-Jeff Award-winner Summer Naomi Smart with Brandon Springman and Evan Tyrone Martin. Acclaimed musical theatre actor and director Evan Pappas is in La Jolla, CA, this week for a workshop production of J'OY VEY, a new holiday play by Lojo Simon and Anita Simons. The production stars veteran San Diego actors Jill Drexler and Rhona Gold. Pappas directed a reading of the play earlier this year in New York with Marianne Tatum (Jenny Lind in Barnum) and Rosalind Harris (Tzeitel in Fiddler on the Roof). Pappas' most recently directed LIBERTY, A Monumental New Musical, which played a limited engagement at Theatre 80 in New York.

Cameron Macintosh and Chichester Festival Theatre's production of Barnum debuted at the Curve Theatre, Leicester last night before embarking on a National Tour. The show was seen by nearly 70,000 people during its run in Chichester last year and was critically acclaimed by many throughout its time there. Way prior to this, the production opened on Broadway back in 1980 where it picked up three Tony Awards and a Drama Desk Award. Following this, Barnum opened in the West End in 1981 starring Michael Crawford; a role which he won an Olivier for.

For those who didn't have the opportunity to meet the cast and crew of East Lynne Theater Company's 'The First Fifty Years' at the opening night after-show party at Pier House Restaurant on June 11, another chance is to be had on Friday, June 20 at an after-show Q&A. It's a wonderful opportunity for patrons to ask actors, director, and technical team such questions as 'why do they do what they do?' and 'how do they do it?'

Coming to the New Orleans Fringe Festival this year is a piece that is sure to capture the attention of local theatre supporters. New York City/Toronto based theatre company GOGOL ANNEX is bringing their show ANTEBELLUM to Mardi Gras Zone this weekend. Leah Loftin of GOGOL ANNEX explained that their theatre company is inspired by a lot of the work that they have done with theatre in Russia, and that their pieces are very experimental and based on historic people and events. "It's very progressive. We have a couple of pieces in development, and ANTEBELLUM is one of them. We work a lot with historical texts and historical characters. Right now we're really interested in these kinds of pockets, specifically history and stories that haven't necessarily been told," says Loftin.
