The Metropolitan Opera's 2013-14 season will feature many of the world's greatest singers, conductors, and theater artists in 26 operas, including six new productions, of a varied repertory that ranges from the Baroque era to the 21st century. Met Music Director James Levine will return to the Met podium for the first time in two years, conducting three operas with which he has long been associated: a new production of Verdi's final masterpiece Falstaff, Mozart's Cosi fan tutte, and Berg's Wozzeck. Chita Rivera, Stephen Sondheim and Harold Prince share the 2013 Jerome Robbins Award, which was presented last night, February at the Baryshnikov Arts Center. A full evening of performances, hosted by Frank Rich and featuring stars from Broadway as well as dancers from New York City Ballet were included in the presentation. Lyric Opera of Chicago and its general director, Anthony Freud, announced the lineup for Lyric's 2013-14 season today. Joseph Calleja, Joyce DiDonato, Nathan Gunn, Thomas Hampson, Ana Maria Martinez, Matthew Polenzani, and Patricia Racette are among those headlining the new season's offerings. These comprise 67 performances of eight different operas, beginning October 5, 2013 and concluding March 23, 2014: new productions of Parsifal, La traviata, The Barber of Seville, and Rusalka (Lyric premiere); a revival of Otello; and new-to-Chicago stagings of Madama Butterfly, Die Fledermaus, and La clemenza di Tito. Lyric's music director, Sir Andrew Davis, will lead three operas, and guest conductors Marco Armiliato, Bertrand de Billy and Michele Mariotti will make their house debuts. Additionally, Lyric will present a new production of Rodgers and Hammerstein's The Sound of Music in the spring of 2014, continuing the company's American Musical Theater Initiative, and Davis will conduct a special Subscriber Appreciation Concert in March featuring Lyric's creative consultant - the star soprano Renee Fleming - with tenor Jonas Kaufmann.

Hartford Stage, under the leadership of Artistic Director Darko Tresnjak and Managing Director Michael Stotts, presents the world premiere stage adaptation of Anton Chekhov's Man in a Case, featuring Mikhail Baryshnikov, on stage February 21 through March 24.

Award-winning stage and screen actress Fiona Shaw will return to the New York stage this spring with The Testament of Mary, by the acclaimed author Colm Tóibín, directed by Deborah Warner. The production will begin previews on Tuesday, March 26, and open on Monday, April 22 for a twelve-week limited engagement through Sunday, June 16 at the Walter Kerr Theatre (219 West 48 Street.) The production will not only mark the New York theatrical debut for the multi-award winning novelist but will also be the first collaboration between Fiona Shaw and Deborah Warner to premiere on this side of the Atlantic.

Court Theatre Artistic Director Charles Newell and Executive Director Stephen J. Albert present James Joyce's "The Dead," with book by Richard Nelson, music by Shaun Davey, lyrics conceived and adapted by Richard Nelson and Shaun Davey, and directed by Charles Newell with musical direction by Doug Peck. Xiomara Reyes and Eric Tamm will lead the opening night cast of American Ballet Theatre's The Nutcracker at the BAM Howard Gilman Opera House on Friday, December 7, 2012 at 7:30 P.M. SORRY, written and directed by Richard Nelson, opened on Tuesday, November 6 to unanimously positive reviews and was originally scheduled to close on November 18. It was extended one additional week to November 25 but strong demand has extended it one final week.
