Hale Center Theater Orem Stages BIG RIVER, Now thru 4/12

'Big River' a musical adaptation of Mark Twain's classic 1884 novel, opens tonight, Feb. 20th at HCTO. Huckleberry Finn, a Missouri boy, hates the 'civilized' life, and decides to fake his death and live on his own. However, Huck's retreat is cut short when he runs into Jim, a run-away slave. Fearing capture, the two set off on a raft down the Mississippi River in search of freedom. A musical based on Mark Twain's big-hearted American adventure of self-discovery and true friendship.

Based on the beloved, classic short story by O. Henry, The Gift of the Magi: the Musical rings in a magical holiday season at The Players' Ring in Portsmouth. This original adaptation for the stage written by David Mauriello with music and lyrics by Robert Johnson, is a production of Awareness UNlimited of Stratham, and is directed by Deb Barry. Musical direction is shared by David Moore and Sabrina Avedisian. The show runs for ten performances from November 21 through December 1.

Hale Center Theater Orem will produce "In the Heights" from October 3 - Nov 23. In the Heights tells the universal story of a vibrant community in New York's Washington Heights neighborhood - a place where the neighbors you meet at the corner bodega (grocery) feel like family, the windows are always open and the breeze carries the rhythm of three generations of music. It's a community on the brink of change, full of hopes, dreams and pressures, where the biggest struggles can be deciding which traditions you take with you, and which ones you leave behind. In the Heights is the winner of the 2008 Tony Awards for Best Musical, Best Score, Best Choreography and Best Orchestrations. This production is the semi-professional Utah premiere.

Custom House Maritime Museum Presents Buoy Launch, 9/9

Monday morning, September 9, at 10 AM, Senator Andrea Stillman and Mayor Daryl Finizio of New London are the guests of honor as the New London Maritime Society--Custom House Maritime Museum officially christens two eight-foot, shallow-water, marine buoys just installed Sunday at the Bank Street museum. The event coincides with the start of Connecticut Maritime History and Heritage Week. The Buoy Launch takes place Monday, September 9 at 10 AM in front of the Custom House Maritime Museum, 150 Bank Street, New London.
