Strawdog Theatre Company concludes its 31st season with the world premiere of TAKE ME, a musical comic fantasia written by Mark Guarino, with original music and lyrics by Jon Langford (The Mekons, The Waco Brothers),orchestrations and arrangements by Anabelle Revak, direction by ensemble member Anderson Lawfer* and music direction by Chuck Evans.

There are some musicals that simply epitomize the genre. You know the ones - the shows where you have lost count how many times you have seen them, either on Broadway, on tour, or at your local theatre. They are like a part of the family - the favorite uncle or aunt that you are happy to see whenever you are together. One of these shows for me is Meredith Willson's THE MUSIC MAN, the classic that serves as a near-perfect representation of American Musical Theatre. So, it is with excitement, and a bit of trepidation (how will this production fare with all the others in my memory?) that I went to see Goodspeed Musicals latest production. I am thrilled to say that the play feels as fresh as the day it premiered, is as lovely as the "bells on the hill" that feature in one of its most iconic songs, and serves as a brilliant opening to the new season at the Goodspeed Opera House.

Ebner-Page Productions today annonuced the New York Premiere Off-Broadway run of Siegmund Fuchs' IN THE CLOSET, a stirring dramedy about ageism in the gay community that will begin a limited Off-Broadway engagement Wednesday, May 29, 2019 continuing through June 16, 2019 at Theatre Row's Studio Theatre, (410 West 42nd Street).  Eli Carpenter will direct.  Mr. Fuchs lives in Washington, D.C., is an attorney for the United States Department of Justice, and his academic work focuses on abuse victims.

The Hudson Valley Shakespeare Festival announces complete casting for the 2019 Summer Season.

Based on real events, ensemble member Anderson Lawfer* directs this new musical about a woman struggling with trauma who finds solace in the world of alien conspiracy theories.

Sequels are an interesting lot. For every one that turns out to be better than the original (e.g., Star Trek II: Wrath of Khan, Godfather, Part II) there are many more that just don't cut it. But that doesn't stop people from wanting to tell the next part of a familiar or popular tale. In theatre, we haven't seen the same volume of sequels as in popular film, and those that have been made have usually been met with lukewarm reaction. But sometimes there is just something about an unfinished story that causes writers to pick up the pen and put their own twist on a tale. Such is the case with A DOLL'S HOUSE, PART 2, Lucas Hnath's sequel to the groundbreaking classic 1879 play by Henrik Ibsen which is currently onstage at TheaterWorks in Hartford.

The world's leading theatrical publishing and licensing company, Samuel French, announced today that The Secret Garden (writing team Lucy Simon & Marsha Norman), Doug Wright, and Antoinette Nwandu will be honored at the third annual Samuel French Awards. A special acknowledgement will also go to Heidi Ettinger, originating producer and Tony Award-winning set designer of The Secret Garden. Created to recognize the great work and unparalleled passion of theatre artists, as well as applaud their significant contributions to the industry, the Samuel French Awards will be presented in a private ceremony on Monday, October 29, 2018.

The Hudson Valley Shakespeare Festival announces the complete lineup for the 2019 Summer Season, including Shakespeare's boisterous MUCH ADO ABOUT NOTHING and adventure-laden CYMBELINE, alongside the New York premiere of CYRANO, a new adaptation of Edmond Rostand's Cyrano de Bergerac written by Jason O'Connell and Brenda Withers. HVSF will also produce its first-ever musical, the Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine classic, INTO THE WOODS.
