Upon re-opening in 2012, a commitment was made by Bucks County Playhouse: to create and grow a home to inspire artists of all ages and backgrounds through a robust education program. Now, Bucks County Playhouse is delighted to announce an innovative program titled 'Girlspeak', designed with 13-18 year olds in mind, addresses young women's contemporary concerns, including body image, cyber-bullying and media pressure.

Bucks County Playhouse Producers Robyn Goodman and Alexander Fraser announce the launch of a musical theatre development program focusing on the importance of lyrics in the creation of new musicals: The Oscar Hammerstein Festival - named in honor of the master writer whose countless accomplishments during his illustrious career include having mentored a young Stephen Sondheim at Hammerstein's Bucks County farm -- is a year-long program that offers expert mentorship to early career composers and lyricists. The Oscar Hammerstein Festival will culminate in a weekend with musical theatre experts, artists, and enthusiasts and various events open to the general public. The Festival will launch September 26 - 28, 2014.
Lincoln Center Launches New Initiative to Train and Certify Future Arts Educators

Lincoln Center, in partnership with CUNY's Hunter College School of Education, the New York City Department of Education, and the United Federation of Teachers, today announced the Lincoln Center Scholars Alternative Certification Program, an innovative new initiative to educate, certify and fast-track over a three-year period the placement of high-quality music, dance, theater and visual art teachers in up to 120 New York City public schools, which are currently without adequate or any arts programs.

This April, teen performers came from throughout Pennsylvania and New Jersey to participate in a rigorous audition for the much-anticipated Bucks County Playhouse Youth Company. For the first time, the Playhouse proudly offers a free, intensive, six-week musical theatre training program for young actors, culminating in two weeks of performances of Disney's Beauty and the Beast Jr. on the legendary stage at Bucks County Playhouse July 28th through August 9th.

The Tony-nominated new Broadway play Mothers and Sons has announced that the production has partnered with the 30/30 Project and Construction for Change. Julie Lewis, 30-year HIV Survivor and mother to Grammy-winner Ryan Lewis, founded the 30/30 Project, which seeks to bring healthcare facilities to communities impacted by HIV/AIDS, as well as offering comprehensive healthcare.

Part 2 is set for tonight, May 28, at the Golden Theatre (252 West 45th Street). Tonight's talkback will focus on the AIDS Quilt with panelists Julie Rhoad (CEO of the Names Project/AIDS Quilt), Anne Balsamo (Names Project Board Member & Dean of New School Media Studies), Lynn Sinelli (AIDS Quilt panel maker), and Jay Lesiger (Owner of Chelsea Pines Inn & Sponsor of the AIDS Quilt Display in the Golden Lobby).

The Tony-nominated new Broadway play Mothers and Sons is proud to announce that the production has partnered with the 29th Annual AIDS Walk New York, the east coast's first and the world's largest AIDS fundraising event, on Sunday, May 18th. Four-time Tony Award winner Terrence McNally will be a speaker during the opening ceremony, and Tony Award nominee Bobby Steggert will sing 'You'll Never Walk Alone' from Rogers and Hammerstein's Carousel. There will also be a special appearance by Tony and 6-time Emmy Award-winner Tyne Daly.

The new Broadway play Mothers and Sons from 4-time Tony Award winner Terrence McNally, now playing at the Golden Theatre (252 West 45th Street), welcomes co-founder of The Tyler Clementi Foundation, Jane Clementi, who will be joined by Tony Award winning producer Paul Boskind (The Normal Heart) for a special post-show "Talk Out" discussion following tonight's, Wednesday, May 14th, evening performance. Jane Clementi is the mother of Tyler Clementi, the Rutgers University student whose suicide opened up an international dialogue about the bullying of LGBT youth. Since Tyler's death, the Clementi family has worked tirelessly to promote new stories of inclusion, dignity and acceptance for vulnerable youth and their families as way to honor the memory of their son, brother and friend. The discussion will begin shortly after Wednesday evening's 7pm performance, and all audience members are welcome to participate. The new Broadway play Mothers and Sons from 4-time Tony Award winner Terrence McNally and starring Tony Award and six-time Emmy Award winner Tyne Daly is proud to announce that portions of The AIDS Memorial Quilt are now on display in the lower lobby of the Golden Theatre (252 West 45th Street), where the critically-acclaimed play currently resides. The Quilt, fittingly, is prominently referenced during the course of the 90-minute play, making its residency inside the theater especially poignant. Audience members of Mothers and Sons are encouraged to view the quilt before or after any performance. The quilt will be on display for the entirety of the run of Mothers and Sons.
