'Successful Philanthropy' by Jean Shafiroff is a practical guide to modern giving that redefines philanthropy for today's era. Far more than making monetary donations, philanthropy today encompasses giving time and knowledge, resources that can be just as valuable as financial contributions.

On Thursday evening, The New York Women's Foundation (NYWF) held its annual Fall Gala in The Grand Ballroom of The Plaza Hotel in New York City. The evening's honorees included Ambassador Samantha Power, U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations; Lisa Kron and Jeanine Tesori, creators of the Tony Award-winning musical, FUN HOME, and corporate honoree Citi. TODAY's Hoda Kotb served as the evening's Mistress of Ceremony. The event raised $680,000 which will help to support NYWF's more than 70 women-led, community grantee-partner organizations. On Monday, September 28th, ROLEX presented Career Transition For Dancers' 30th Anniversary PEARL JUBILEE: A STAR-STUDDED RETROSPECTIVE in association with the Lloyd E. Rigler - Lawrence E. On June 20th, The Ellen Hermanson Foundation's founding chairs Emily Levin Esq. and Julie Ratner Ed. D held their 20th annual gala to celebrate their achievements over the past two decades and to honor Andy Sabin for his environmental and philanthropic work. Chaired by Jean Shafiroff and hosted by Fox Meteorologist Audrey Puente, the duo welcomed over 300 guests to photographer, Steven Klein's Westkill Farm in Bridgehampton for a night of dinner and dancing to the sounds of Audrey's brother, Tito Puente Jr. & his 10-piece band. The School of American Ballet's Workshop Performance Benefit 2015 on Tuesday, June 2, 2015 raised more than $890,000 for scholarships and school programs. The evening began with cocktails at 5:30pm in Juilliard's Morse Hall, followed by the performance at 7pm in the Peter Jay Sharp Theater at Lincoln Center, and concluded with a seated dinner at 9pm at the Mandarin Oriental. The evening celebrated the legendary Rudolf Nureyev and commemorated the 20th Anniversary of the Rudolf Nureyev Dance Scholarship.

Broadway legend Joel Grey (CABARET, WICKED) and Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein (FINDING NEVERLAND) were honored last night at this year's Fred and Adele Astaire Awards. The gala evening CELEBRATED the 2015 season's outstanding dance and choreography on Broadway and film. The School of American Ballet's 2015 Winter Ball took place at Lincoln Center's David H. Koch Theater on Monday, March 9, 2015 and raised more than $1.39 million for scholarships and school programs. Legendary French jeweler, Van Cleef & Arpels sponsored the glamorous, black-tie dinner dance for the eighth consecutive year. The evening began with cocktails at 7pm and dinner at 8pm, followed by a student performance choreographed specially for the occasion, and The Encore dessert and dancing. The proceeds from this event enhance every aspect of the School's extraordinary ballet training program, helping to provide more than $1.9 million annually in student scholarships, as well as supporting faculty, maintaining world-class studios and offering vital student programs beyond the classroom.

On Thursday January 8th, the National Arts Club and its Office of Fine Arts, as directed by Dianne B. Bernhard, presented a rare series of etchings and aquatint, Los Caprichos, from the Spanish Master Francisco de Goya. The free exhibition, titled Francisco de Goya y Lucientes: Los Caprichosruns until January 31st.

Geoffrey Bradfield, Barbara and Donald Tober, Gillian and Sylvester Miniter, Eleanora and Michael Kennedy and Ambassador John Loeb and Sharon Handler Loeb co-hosted a special VIP Preview of acclaimed celebrity and society photographer Annie Watt's Impromptu Portraits at the prestigious Galerie Dumonteil on Park Avenueand 57th Street on Tuesday to benefit the American Heart Association. The incisive images of celebrities, political figures, designers and society's elite filled the walls of the elegant gallery. The images were presented in a variety of sizes and formats, classic 8 x 10, Oversize and snappy Polaroids and many were scooped up by the attendees.

On Monday, September 29th, Cornelia Guest, Amanda Hearst, Anne Hearst McInerney, Patricia Hearst Shaw, Gillian Hearst Simonds and Kimberly Rockefellerhosted a reception for 400 and a dinner for 104 guests at The National Arts Club to celebrate the opening of 'Charles James: Beneath the Dress.' The exhibition of 100 fashion and erotic drawings from the private collection of R. Couri Hay, photographs by Anton Perich and a screening of the Charles James documentary by Angela Bernhard Thomas will run until October 5th.

The third edition of Art Southampton, the leading international contemporary and modern art fair for acquiring investment quality works of art opened last night with huge success, where top collectors, curators, art advisors and influencers kicked off the weekend-long event. Taking place on the 18-acre estate behind the Southampton Elks Lodge, the Platinum VIP saw over 1,500 top collectors of the East End, and throughout the elegant evening, attendance exceeded last year's VIP Preview of 4,200 guests. The worlds of art, fashion, design, theater and media came together for “Reflections: Art & Beauty” a one-night- only exhibition of significant contemporary art works to benefit Robert Wilson's internationally acclaimed arts incubator The Watermill Center. Hosted by Sherle Wagner International, the premier source, world-wide, for luxury bath hardware, and bath accessories and the recently launched Fairweather Magazine dedicated to following La Dolce Vita world-wide, the Vernissage drew over 400 guests to the gorgeous showroom. A magnificent sculpture in painted and chromed steel, “Rev. E. Piscapalian Study” by the renowned John Chamberlain towered over attendees as they arrived and were greeted by Evan Geoffroy, CEO, Sherle Wagner, Alexandra Fairweather and Eric Goodman, co-founders Fairweather Magazine and Pinki Patel of The Watermill Center.

Mendel. The proceeds from this event enable SAB to distribute $1.9 million annually in student scholarships as well as support the School's renowned faculty and state-of-the-art facilities at Lincoln Center.

Dance Theatre of Harlem (DTH) held its 2014 Vision 2014 Gala on February 25th at Cipriani 42 in New York City. As Dance Theatre of Harlem celebrates its 45th Anniversary, this year's gala was themed 'Live the Moment' and raised $700,000, $75,000 of which resulted from the entertaining live auction conducted by Audrey Smaltz, with the proceeds benefitting the DTH School's Next Generation and Community Engagement Funds. Honorees were Grammy Award-winning recording artist Patti LaBelle with the Arthur Mitchell Vision Award; dance educator and arts advocate Jody Gottfried Arnhold with The Carl and Lily Pforzheimer Foundation Medal; and Goldman, Sachs & Co. senior partner Valentino D.
