National Museum of American History Collects History Related to Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender History

As part of its mission to document the full breadth of the American experience, the Smithsonian's National Museum of American History will add a significant number of objects and archival materials related to LGBT history, including Renee Richard's tennis racquet, the original transgender pride flag, materials from the NBC television series Will& Grace and the diplomatic passports of former U.S. Ambassador to New Zealand and Samoa David Huebner and his spouse, Duane McWaine, and will acknowledge several other recent donations.

Michael Sam to Be Honored with the Arthur Ashe Courage Award at The 2014 ESPYS Tonight

Former Missouri Tigers defensive end Michael Sam will be presented with the Arthur Ashe Courage Award at The 2014 ESPYS in Los Angeles. After a highly successful College Football career, including being named the Southeastern Conference Defensive Player of the Year and First-Team All-American his senior year, Sam announced publicly that he was gay.

EPIX Explores LGBT Human Rights Journey as Seen Through Athletes' Experience

Premium entertainment network EPIX announced today that To Russia With Love, an EPIX Original Documentary about two generations of Olympic LGBT athletes, will make its World Premiere Wednesday, October 22 at 8PM ET. To Russia with Love examines human rights through the lens of LGBT athletes, with iconoclastic athlete and commentator Johnny Weir serving as the viewers' guide into this world. The documentary examines the experiences of Olympic legends Billie Jean King and Greg Louganis as well as the next generation of LGBT athletes who participated in the 2014 Olympic Games in Sochi, Russia. Shooting worldwide in locations as diverse as Sochi, New York City, Calgary, Toronto, St. Petersburg and Moscow, the film follows these athletes from the ice to the slopes as they bear the brunt of constant media questioning about Russia's anti-gay laws.

Seattle-based Nordstrom, Inc., announced plans to open a Nordstrom Rack at The Shops at SkyView Center in Queens, N.Y. The approximately 39,000-square-foot, two-level store is scheduled to open in fall 2014. The developer for the project is Onex Real Estate Partners.
