Stage Left Theatre presents Robert O'Hara's INSURRECTION: HOLDING HISTORY. Directed by Wardell Julius Clark, INSURRECTION: HOLDING HISTORY runs January 11th through February 11th.

INSURRECTION: HOLDING HISTORY, directed by Wardell Julius Clark, opened at Stage Left Theatre on January 11th and runs through February 11th. The play, written by Robert O'Hara, tells the story of a Ron, a young African-American man who trying to complete his grad school thesis on Nat Turner's Slave Rebellion. Aided by his great-great grandfather, he travels 189 years back in time to meet Nat in person. This journey forces Ron to confront his identity, his sexuality, and his family history.

Promethean Theatre Ensemble's twelfth season will open in October with Jose Rivera's MARISOL - an absurdist comedy in which a young New York City woman of Puerto Rican descent finds herself immersed in a battle led by angels to save the universe from a senile and ineffectual God.

Promethean Theatre Ensemble's twelfth season will open in October with Jose Rivera's MARISOL an absurdist comedy in which a young New York City woman of Puerto Rican descent finds herself immersed in a battle led by angels to save the universe from a senile and ineffectual God. Marisol Perez is a copy editor for a Manhattan publisher. Though she is a white-collar worker, she still chooses to live alone in the tough section of the Bronx where she grew up. The play opens with Marisol barely escaping a vicious attack on her subway trip back to the Bronx. Later that evening, Marisol's guardian angel pays a visit to tell her she can no longer serve as Marisol's protector because she has been called to join the revolution already in progress against an old and senile God who is dying and 'taking the rest of the universe with him.' The angel warns Marisol that she will face many threats over the coming days and advises her to be prepared to defend herself. Soon, Marisol is caught up in the Armageddon being fought on the streets of New York City.

This classic romantic comedy will be directed by Artistic Director Derek Bertelsen and will play the Greenhouse Theater Center (2257 N Lincoln Ave, Chicago) from January 12 through February 4, 2017. Press opening is Today, January 14 at 8:00pm.

The fourth annual Indie Boots Theatre Festival celebrates new short plays with underrepresented perspectives on whose stories are worth telling, what's funny, and how the world works. From hilarious comedies to thoughtful dramas, from angsty realism to sci-fi adventures, the plays and their characters grapple with love, feminism, LGBTQ communities, friendship, history, intricacies of language, activism, and a missing vibrator.

Wayward Productions has announced complete casting for the June 13th opening.
