The Jeff Awards announced today a total of 115 nominations in 19 categories for the 45th Annual Non-Equity Jeff Awards.

Redtwist Theatre presents Frost/Nixon by Peter Morgan, and directed by Scott Weinstein, featuring Redtwist company member & Jeff Award-winner Brian Parry as Richard Nixon. The show opens Saturday, April 21, 2018, at 3pm (this is also the press opening) and runs Thu, Fri, Sat at 7:30pm; Sun at 3pm, through Sun, May 20.

Actors David Sajewich, in the role of George Bailey, and Allison Sill in the role of his wife Mary, lead the cast of Theatre at the Center's A Wonderful Life: The Musical with James Harms as Mr. Potter, David Perkovich as Clarence, Jim Heatherly as Uncle Billy and Jason Richards as Mr. Martini. Big River: The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn opened to a packed house at Theatre at the Center on Sunday night. Audience members leapt to their feet at the end of the performance of the now Jeff-Recommended production. Actors James Romney in the role of Huck and Jonathan Butler-Duplessis in the role of Jim lead the cast in the musical that continues through October 15.

Due to popular demand, Griffin Theatre Company's newly-orchestrated chamber version of the Tony Award-winning musical RAGTIME will add one additional week of performances, extending through July 22, 2017 at The Den Theatre's Heath Main Stage, 1333 N. Milwaukee Ave. in Chicago.

Just as Stephen Flaherty and Lynn Ahrens's 1999 musical RAGTIME traverses numerous locales on the East Coast and spans the years from 1906-1914, so too does director Scott Weinstein's dynamic staging make full use of The Den Theatre's Heath Mainstage. In Griffin Theatre Company's production, Weinstein's in-the-round staging often has actors dispersed among the audience (indeed, a handful of performers appeared right in front and me and even made eye contact during the performance). While this is an intimate production of a sweeping musical, this genius device lends RAGTIME the grand air it commands. The closeness of the action also lends pathos to this story of three American families-one white and privileged, one black, and one immigrant-as they navigate a changing country at the beginning of the twentieth century.

Theatre at the Center's production of Annie Warbucks, the sequel to Annie, the 1977 Tony Award-winning smash Broadway hit, opened to a packed house Sunday, November 20. Based on Harold Gray's Little Orphan Annie comic strip, the book is by Thomas Meehan with music by Charles Strouse and lyrics by Martin Charnin. Annie Warbucks opened Off Broadway in 1993 and broke records for the time with 200 performances.  The Jeff Recommended production will continue through December 18. Titan Theatre Company will be presenting a special performance of Jason Richards' THE PRINCESS AND THE PLAYERS tonight at The Ronald McDonald House, NYC. The performance kicks off the year long partnership between the two companies, that will provide theatrical entertainment for the children and families utilizing the services there.
