On Wednesday, May 6th select eighth grade students at the Professional Performing Arts School (PPAS) will take part in a special song interpretation masterclass. Broadway actors Jason Gotay and Stephanie Gibson will be leading the masterclass. Six students were picked by PPAS voice teacher Brad Siebeking to work one on one with Ms. Gibson and Mr. Gotay.
Following multiple sold out engagements, Charlie Rosen's Broadway Big Band returns to the intimate Manhattan venue 54 Below on Monday May 18th to continue an official residence for 2015. Tony Award nominee Bryce Pinkham (Gentlemen's Guide..., The Heidi Chronichles), Janet Krupin (If/Then, Bring It On) Ciara Renee (Pippin, Big Fish) make their Broadway Big Band debuts, joing a starry list of performers. The 9:30 PM concert, helmed by director Max Friedman, also featurs returning guest vocalists Nick Blaemire (Found, Godspell), Tony Award Nominee Daniel Breaker (Passing Strange, The Book of Mormon), Jason Gotay (Spider Man: Turn Off The Dark, Bring It On), Julia Mattison (Godspell), and more to be announced! According to an audition notice, Ryan Scott Oliver's DARLING -- a dark, sexy re-telling of Peter Pan -- is getting a developmental lab via WalkRunFly Productions after its January reading in New York City. The musical will run June 10 through July 1, 2015.
TUTS Underground, in association with Third Coast Creative, presents LMNOP - A New Muzical, April 7 - 19 in Zilkha Hall at The Hobby Center. Chaos arises when letters begin to fall from a town monument and government officials ban them one by one. The community depends on the strength of a determined teenage girl to fight for their freedom of speech. This unique musical is part romance, part clever word game and part adult fable that reminds us of how precious our liberties are and how important it is to have the courage to stand up for what we believe.
The Broadway Sings concert series comes to 54 Below for its first "Best Of Broadway Sings" concert, which will feature showstoppers from the series' previous seven concerts. Some of Broadway's brightest, current talents will sing completely new arrangements of the hits of seven pop superstars: Adele, Michael Jackson, Beyonce, Stevie Wonder, Amy Winehouse, Justin Timberlake, and P!NK. Over 15 Broadway performers will be accompanied by an 8-piece jazz band playing unique, original orchestrations created for the acclaimed series.
