East West Players (EWP), the nation's longest-running professional theatre of color in the country, celebrating its 50th Anniversary season, is pleased to announce the extension of "The Who's TOMMY" which opened on May 13. Music and Lyrics by Pete Townshend, Book by Pete Townshend and Des McAnuff, Additional Music and Lyrics by John Entwistle and Keith Moon.

East West Players has done it again with their spectacular production of The Who's Tommy. With an incredible band, vibrant vocals from the entire cast and stunning visuals, this 'little' theatre easily matches and betters many larger house productions.

The production is directed by Snehal Desai (EWP's 'A Nice Indian Boy') with musical direction by Marc Macalintal (EWP's 'Chess,' 'Krunk Fu Battle Battle') and choreography by Janet Roston (Ovation Award and NAACP Award winner for 'The Color Purple' at Celebration Theatre). Generous support for this production is provided by the S. Mark Taper Foundation Endowment for East West Players.

As part of Tennessee Shakespeare Company's first year-round season, the development of three exciting new musicals launches on the University of Memphis Mainstage this summer with Showplace Memphis: Musical Works in Progress.

Loud repetitious music usually is a turnoff to me, in spite of the fact that the rock and roll of the 60s and 70s constitutes a large part of my musical background. I grew up listening to it and like much of it, but in later years have narrowed my preferences to pop standards, jazz and Broadway fare, which always make me happy. Although Irish, I have learned to love Celtic music more recently; since Once, I have become increasingly enamored of that sound especially at Christmas. When you add violin to keyboard, drums and guitar, as do the creators of Striking 12, now in its Orange County premiere at the Laguna Playhouse through December 28, you get that joyful sound loud and clear, and that plus the brilliance of the four musicians/actors (Brent Schindele ...

The world premiere of PSYCHE: A Modern Rock Opera is undeniably impressive, especially when you consider the scope of the author's vision and the level of detail that has gone into its execution.

Psyche Productions, LLC in association with Greenway Arts Alliance present the world premiere of, PSYCHE: A Modern Rock Opera, book, music and lyrics by Cindy Shapiro (based on the Greek myth of 'Psyche and Eros'), with musical direction by Jack Wall, choreography by Janet Roston and directed by Ovation Award-winner Michael Matthews. PSYCHE: A Modern Rock Opera will begin previews on Friday, August 22 and will open on Friday, August 29 at 8pm and run through Sunday, September 28 at the Greenway Court Theatre, 544 North Fairfax Avenue in Hollywood.

Coeurage Theatre Company, LA's 'Pay What You Want' Company, has announced Art in the Park, a special event for kids and families today, May 17 at 6pm prior to the 8:00 curtain for that evening's performance. Art in the Park is being held in conjunction with the critically acclaimed Coeurage production of David Saar's The Yellow Boat. Directed by Joseph V. Calarco, the play's engagement runs through Today, May 25 only.

Last year, Chance Theater Resident Playwright Marshall Pailet directed his show, Triassic Parq - The Musical, which went on to win the Ovation Award for 'Best Musical - Intimate Theatre.' He also presented two other staged readings as part of our On The Radar New Play Series - Who's Your Baghdaddy or How I Started the Iraq War and a brand new creation - Loch Ness. The show was so new, in fact, that it wasn't even finished yet... until now. The staged reading of the newly complete Loch Ness will perform for one night only - tonight, May 13 at 8pm at Chance Theater @ Bette Aitken Theater Arts Center.

Coeurage will also host a Hemophilia Day Carnival on May 17 prior to that evening's performance. (More details on the Carnival will be announced at a later date.) The Suffolk University Theatre Department presents a new rock musical by Brendan Milburn and Valerie Vigoda, Midsummer Night, loosely adapted from Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream, today, April 10-13 at the Modern Theatre.
