James Barbour premiered his new concert series, entitled 'LOVE SONGS' on Saturday, January 31st with Broadway's Lauren Kennedy as his special guest. BroadwayWorld's cameras welcomed James back to West 44th Street. Noel Coward's Blithe Spirit begins performances on Thursday, February 26, 2009. It will open Sunday, March 15, 2009 at the Shubert Theatre (West 44th Street). The reason is simple: there are no acceptance speeches at The Nightlife Awards.

Theater Resources Unlimited (TRU), in association with Weist Barron Studios and Paula J. Riley, presents an Actors Resource Night (and 'Speed Dating') on Monday, January 19 at 7pm at Weist Barron Studios, 35 W. 45th Street, 6th floor, NYC. Actors will have the chance to meet an agent, a life coach, 2 business coaches, a solo performance coach, a vocal coach, a commercial coach, a website designer, a headshot photographer... ten resources in all, with three minutes to meet each before the bell rings and they have to move on.

The National Endowment for the Arts awarded a $60,000 grant to the National Alliance for Musical Theatre to support NAMT's Fall Conference and 21st annual Festival of New Musicals taking place in fall 2009. This is the highest donation that NAMT has received since its founding in 1985. At the Fall Conference, NAMT's membership of leading professional producers of musical theatre will gather to hear from experts, discuss new work development, and collaborate on new projects. At the 21st annual Festival of New Musicals, NAMT members will be joined by hundreds of industry professionals to see 45-minute staged readings of eight new musicals over two days. The last 20 Festivals have launched such notable musicals as The Bubbly Black Girl Sheds Her Chameleon Skin, The Drowsy Chaperone, Kingdom, Meet John Doe, Thoroughly Modern Millie, The Story of My Life, Striking 12, and Vanities. Executive Director Kathy Evans stated, 'We are honored to be recognized by the NEA as playing a crucial role in nurturing the development and production of new musicals. And we are excited to play a part in helping such talented artists find future homes for their work in theatres across the country.'

The New York Times reports that those in the audience for the Saturday, December 13 matinee of David Mamet's Speed-the-Plow got a little something extra when a technical problem stopped the show partway through the second scene.

Producers of ALL MY SONS announced today that the new production of the Arthur Miller play has recouped it $3.25 million capitalization. This marks the highest capitalization of a commercial play ever to be recouped.

It has been announced that MTC's production of TO BE OR NOT TO BE will play its final performance on November 16th, 2008. November 16th, 2008 is the end of Manhattan Theater Club's subscription run. They had previously been offering tickets through November 23rd, 2008, but will now be canceling that week of performances. Patrons who have purchased tickets for performances through November 23rd, 2008 should return to their point of purchase for a refund.
