On Monday, February 29, 2016, the Broadway at Birdland concert series will be presenting Elegies for Angels, Punks and Raging Queens as a benefit concert. With music by Janet Hood, lyrics and additional text by bill Russell, the piece is comprised of songs and monologues inspired by the NAMES Project AIDS Memorial Quilt and Edgar Lee Masters' Spoon River Anthology. To get the inside scoop on the upcoming star studded concert, I chatted with Russell and director Jill Sapenoff.

The Groovy Projects (www.thegroovyprojects.com) celebrates their second annual Groovy Project's 'FUNdraiser' Benefit Monday March 30, 2015 beginning at 6:00pm at Therapy Lounge and Bar (348 West 52nd St, NY, NY 10019). Hosted by Nate Lombardi (Founder, The Groovy Projects), the benefit features a buffet of hors d'oeuvres, special drinks and pricing, live musical performances, merriment, and a call to supporting arts education for students through the work of The Groovy Projects.

After a very successful debut concert with Sueño Pop: A Latin Pop Concert, Jose Sepulveda and SepLo Productions present the second concert in the #sueñopop series, Sueño Pop: Crossover. The one night only event will feature some of Broadway and TV's hottest young stars singing music by some of Latin Pop/Rock's biggest players including Jennifer Lopez, Ricky Martin, Enrique Iglesias and many more. Songs will be in both English and Spanish.

25 years to the day the film was released, HEATHERS: THE MUSICAL, the new stage adaptation of Daniel Waters' iconic 1989 dark comedy, made its New York premiere at New World Stages. Written by Olivier Award winner and Tony Award nominee Laurence O'Keefe and Emmy Award winner Kevin Murphy, HEATHERS: THE MUSICAL is directed by famed stage and screen director Andy Fickman, with choreography by Emmy Award winner Marguerite Derricks. The third annual 'Night of A Thousand Judys' - presented by The Meeting* hosted by Justin Sayre - featured Maude Maggart(Entertainment Weekly's 'Must List'), Tituss Burgess ('30 Rock,' Jersey Boys), Rachel Shukert (Starstruck), John Early ('30 Rock') and Becca Blackwell (Untitled Feminist Show). 'Night of A Thousand Judys' honors the legendary singer and actress Judy Garland with special skits, tributes and songs from her storied career. Check out photos from the concert below!

An extremely limited number of $20 rush tickets to this year's star-studded BROADWAY BACKWARDS will be released for sale at 6:30 PM Monday, March 18, 2013. The rush tickets will be sold in the lobby of the Palace Theater (1564 Broadway). They will not be available at the box office. Tickets will be sold on a first-come, first-served basis, cash only and are limited to two tickets per person. The show begins at 8 PM.

Coming up this week, 54 BELOW, the performance venue located just below the legendary Studio 54 at 254 West 54th Street, presents some of the brightest stars from Broadway, cabaret, jazz and beyond, including award-winning vocalist Eric Michael Gillett, Broadway star Chester Gregory, Grammy Award winner Joni Mitchell, BACKSTAGE, Broadway star T. As previously reported by BroadwayWorld, Broadway Takes Charge, a benefit concert directed by Trapper Felides, took over Le Poisson Rouge on April 16. The event was produced by Antonio R. Marion & Paul Burchette, with a portion of the proceeds going toward The Trevor Project. The event featured the stars of tomorrow, and the stars of today uniting together in a stand against bullying.

The Time Out New York Lounge at New World Stages will present a special Valentine's Day edition of Whistling Trixies, Saturday, February 11th, at the Time Out New York Lounge at New World Stages, 340 West 50th Street (between Eighth & Ninth Avenues). Doors open at 10:30pm. There will be a $5 cover charge to benefit Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS.
