New Power Plays Initiative Announced at Arena Stage

Arena Stage at the Mead Center for American Theater launches Power Plays, an ambitious initiative commissioning and developing 25 new plays and musicals from 25 writers over the course of the next 10 years. With Power Plays, Arena Stage focuses Washington, D.C.'s unique theatrical voice on politics and power, amplifying the theater's role as a national center dedicated to American voices and artists, located in the heart of the nation's capital.

20,000 Free Tickets For Schools For Globe's TAMING OF THE SHREW

Globe Education's production for the 2017 Playing Shakespeare with Deutsche Bank will be THE TAMING OF THE SHREW, opening at Shakespeare's Globe on 28 February and running until 25 March. Over 20,000 free tickets are available for state secondary schools in London and Birmingham.

BWW Review: Skylight's Glittering LA CAGE AUX FOLLES Lavishes Joie de Vivre for Family

What defines a family--those people who love by sacrificing their own life for someone else? In a lavish production where Chris March's luscious costumes touch the senses, Skylight Music Theater stages the 1983 Broadway musical La Cage Aux Folles. Scenic Designer Liliana Duque Piñeiro complements March's fabulous costumes by hanging a serpentine curtain of reflective silver strips across the stage that sparkles when Lighting Designer Noele Stollmack illuminates the fluid curtain with a rainbow of colors throughout the production Originally written by Harvey Fierstein with music and lyrics by Jerry Herman, this musical based on a French play by Jean Poirot, won multiple awards in its production year and also in several later revivals.

The U.S. National Tour of ANNIE, now in its third smash year, will play December 13-18 at the historic Orpheum Theatre in Memphis.

Children's Playhouse of Maryland Presents ELF JR. the Musical

The Children's Playhouse of Maryland, Inc. (CPM), in residence at CCBC Essex, Elf, Jr. The Musical, the weekends of Dec. 3-4, 10-11, and 17-18 at 1 p.m., with additional shows at 4:30 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 4 and 18, and 7 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 10. The Sunday, Dec. 11 show at 1p.m. will be American Sign Language interpreted by students of CCBC Catonsville Interpreter Preparation Certification Program. A special Sensory Friendly performance is set for December 11 at 4:30 p.m. Show tickets are $10 each. Tickets will be sold at the door only as space permits. Call the Box Office for specially priced tickets not available online. Seniors, CCBC Community, and Groups of 8 or more are $8 each. CPM Actorlist Tickets are $5.

MISS BENNET: CHRISTMAS AT PEMBERLY to Extend at Northlight Theatre

Northlight Theatre, under the direction of Artistic Director BJ Jones and Executive Director Timothy J. Evans, presents the World Premiere of Miss Bennet: Christmas at Pemberley. Miss Bennet: Christmas at Pemberley, written by Lauren Gunderson and Margot Melcon and directed by Jessica Thebus, has been extended for an additional six performances and will now run through December 24, 2016.

ANNIE to Play San Jose Center for the Performing Arts

Broadway San Jose, a Nederlander Presentation, is proud to announce that the U.S. National Tour of ANNIE, now in its third smash year, will play January 6 - 8, 2017 at The Center for the Performing Arts in San Jose (255 S. Almaden Blvd.). Directed by original lyricist and director Martin Charnin for the 19th time, this production of ANNIE is a brand new incarnation of the iconic Tony Award®-winning original.

Steppenwolf continues its 41st season with the Chicago premiere of Lucas Hnath's The Christians directed by ensemble member K. Todd Freeman. The cast features ensemble member Tom Irwin as Pastor Paul and ensemble member Robert Breuler as Elder Jay with Shannon Cochran as the Pastor's wife, Elizabeth, Glenn Davis as Joshua and Jacqueline Williams as Congregant. Set designer Walt Spangler transforms The Downstairs Theatre into a church where a live choir performs onstage. Under the musical direction of Jaret Landon, the choir features Faith Howard, Yando Lopez, Jazelle Morriss, Mary-Margaret Roberts, Charlie Strater and Michael Weatherspoon.
