Five months… FIVE MONTHS after their previous musical comedy, Jumbo, opened at the Hippodrome, the trio of Richard Rodgers, Lorenz Hart and George Abbott had a brand new one at the Imperial. But far from seeming a rush job, their 1936 On Your Toes can easily be argued to be a huge step forward in refining musical comedy into a sophisticated art form.
Casting for the first two weeks of American Ballet Theatre's 2013 Spring Season at the Metropolitan Opera House was recently announced by Artistic Director Kevin McKenzie. The season will begin tonight, Monday, May 13 at 6:30 P.M. with the Company's Opening Night Gala, featuring a piece d'occasion choreographed by Marcelo Gomes, set to the second movement of Beethoven's Seventh Symphony and danced by Julie Kent and Roberto Bolle.

The "Slaughter on Tenth Avenue" ballet, originally choreographed by George Balanchine, will be staged by Susan Pilarre, who served as a Ballet Mistress of the show's 1983 Broadway Revival.

Caroline Kennedy and Blaine Trump will serve as Honorary Chairs of this special performance featuring all of ABT's Principal Dancers.
Irina Dvorovenko, a Principal Dancer with American Ballet Theatre since 2000, will give her final performance with the Company on May 18, 2013 at the Metropolitan Opera House in the role of Tatiana in Onegin. Dvorovenko will dance opposite Cory Stearns in the role of Eugene Onegin.
Irina Dvorovenko, Principal Dancer with the American Ballet Theater, is set to retire from the Ballet Theater as of May 18, 2013. Her last appearance will be as Tatiana in 'Onegin' at the Metropolitan Opera House. Dvorovenko has appeared in over 16 seasons with the Ballet Theater. She leaves no explanation on retirement, but plans to continue dancing as a guest artist with other companies.
