BWW Reviews: TROUBLE IN MIND at Two River Theater - Excellent and Relevant

Two River Theater in Red Bank continues their 20th Anniversary Season with 'Trouble in Mind' a play by Alice Childress. This entertaining production has excellent direction, an outstanding cast and a relevant social theme. Area audiences should put this on their must-see list.

The Acting Company will present a benefit staged reading of Stage Door by Edna Ferber and George S. Kaufman at 7 pm on Monday, March 18 at the Ailey Studios Joan Weill Center for Dance, 405 West 55th Street (Ninth Avenue). The performance, starring Kristine Nielsen (Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike, Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson), Merwin Goldsmith (Grand Hotel, Me and My Gal), Heidi Armbruster (Disgraced, Time Stands Still), Zoe Winters (4,000 Miles, Gossip Girl) will be followed by a reception with the cast and director, Irene Lewis, former Artistic Director of Baltimore's Centerstage. A dozen Acting Company Alumni Members-Beth Bartley, Kaliswa Brewster, Georgia Cohen, Susan Finch, Adam Green, Julie Jesneck, Jonathan Kaplan (Tony nom. American Conservatory Theater (A.C.T.) will welcome Phil Bronstein - esteemed journalist and Executive Chair of the Board for the Center for Investigative Reporting - for a special postshow discussion with A.C.T. Artistic Director Carey Perloff immediately following the 8 p.m. performance of George F. Walker's Dead Metaphor on Wednesday, March 20, 2013. The discussion will explore issues raised by Dead Metaphor, including nationwide unemployment rates among veterans and the politics of postwar living. Bronstein will also discuss his recent investigative report on the Navy Seal responsible for killing Osama Bin Laden who has since had difficulty finding a job back at home (http://cironline.org/theshooter). Here in Baltimore, it seems to be Bus Stop season. It's been less than a month since I reviewed the Spotlighters' community theater production of the William Inge 1955 classic; now it's Center Stage's turn. And of course Center Stage (or is it Centerstage these days?) gives it a full-dress professional staging. The difference is surprisingly great.
