Metropolitan Opera star Deborah Voigt is the special guest in Bending Towards the Light ... A Jazz Nativity.  Chelsea Opera joins forces with Kindred Spirits, Inc. to present this fresh and dramatic telling of the Christmas story.  WQXR's Terrance McKnight and WBGO's Sheila Andersonco-host this 30th anniversary production of Bending Towards the Light ... A Jazz Nativity, featuring jazz greats Ingrid Jensen, Steve Wilson, Wycliffe Gordon, and 93-year-old Latin congo player, Candido.  Performances take place at Christ and St. Stephen's Church, 120 West 69th Street in NYC, on Sunday, December 20 at 5 pm and 8 pm.  Tickets range from $25 to $50, available online and at the door (cash/check only).

On his brilliantly realized new album 'Celebrating the Music and Lyrics of Dave & Iola Brubeck,' drummer Dan Brubeck introduces his parents' remarkable and surprisingly little-known songbook. The second youngest of Dave and Iola Brubeck's six children, Dan has an extensive history of performing and recording alongside his famous pianist father Dave Brubeck and had long wanted to explore some of the songs and textual settings that his parents collaborated on over the years. The 2-CD set, which happens to be Dan's recording debut as a leader, will be released by Blue Forest Records on April 28.

The University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music (CCM) has announced initial details on its 2014-15 Concert Series. Encompassing over 50 different concerts, this series begins with a performance by the internationally acclaimed Ariel Quartet with legendary guest artist Menahem Pressler on Sept. 9, 2014, and concludes with a number of performances by CCM's Preparatory Department running May 1 - 9, 2015.

While renowned as a performer, band leader and composer, 'Dave Brubeck was a giant not only in music but in spirit,' said Milken Archive founder Lowell Milken. 'His work will continue to speak an eternal message of hope for the brotherhood of man.' He was a great friend of the Milken Archive of American Jewish Music, which recorded The Gates of Justice in 2001 as well as his choral cantata The Commandments in 2007. These compositions explored the profound nature of humanity's record of war and peace, prejudice and understanding.
