Deborah Lewis Named New Executive Director of LA Children's Chorus

Deborah Lewis, an exceptional and highly regarded arts administrator with three decades of experience, has been appointed Executive Director of the renowned Los Angeles Children's Chorus (LACC) effective April 21, 2014, following a nationwide search, it was announced by LACC Board Chair Jennifer Terry. Lewis previously served as Executive Director of Angels Gate Cultural Center, the acclaimed visual and performing arts organization located San Pedro heralded for its broad reach throughout Southern California and beyond. Prior to that she was the executive director of the Ethel Louise Armstrong Foundation, for which she administered its national grant and scholarship programs and also provided arts organizations with key technical assistance in compliance with the American with Disabilities Act (ADA).

Visual/Theater and Film Artist Janie Geiser Set for Arts Learning Residency at FirstWorks, Now thru 4/12

FirstWorks brings internationally recognized visual/theater artist and experimental filmmaker Janie Geiser to Providence April 6-12 for a week-long FirstWorks Arts Learning residency to include a series of workshops, artist talks and screenings designed to engage Providence-area K-12 and university students. As part of a FirstWorks co-commissioned project, Geiser and a cross-disciplinary group of students from Brown University and Rhode Island School of Design (RISD) will combine puppetry and video during a week-long developmental workshop for Geiser's new multidisciplinary work "Fugitive Time".

ODC Theater to Host Evening of Dance & Food, 5/13

ODC Theater, one of the West Coast's major centers for contemporary dance and performance, will host a benefit in support of its future programs on Tuesday, May 13, 2014. The annual event, called Indulge, includes an array of irresistible desserts and savories provided by some of the Mission district's best bakeries, shops and food emporiums. The benefit also features pop-up dance performances, a film screening, spirited beverages, enticing auction items and a chance to mingle with artists and art-lovers alike.

Ballet Preljocaj's SNOW WHITE to Make Chicago Debut at Harris Theater, 5/2-4

France's leading contemporary dance ensemble, Ballet Preljocaj, based in Aix-en-Provence, will perform the Chicago debut of the company's mercurial Snow White, a modern take on the classic Brothers Grimm fairy tale, choreographed by company Artistic Director and Bessie Award-winner Angelin Preljocaj with costumes by legendary Haute Couture designer Jean Paul Gaultier. Performance dates for this limited engagement are Friday, May 2 and Saturday, May 3 at 7:30PM and Sunday, May 4 at 2PM at the Harris Theater for Music and Dance. The Harris Theater is one of only three venues that will present Snow White during the company's U.S. tour, which will also include performances at New York's Lincoln Center and the Los Angeles Music Center. Trey McIntyre Project Performs Last Work as a Full-Time Dance Company at Harris Theater Tonight

In one of its final performances as a full-time dance company, the Boise-based Trey McIntyre Project (TMP) will present the Harris Theater-commissioned Chicago premiere of The Vinegar Works: Four Dances of Moral Instruction. The performance tonight, April 3 at 7:30PM will include live musical accompaniment from the young stars of the Music Institute of Chicago. This exciting work, organized and led by the Harris Theater, pairs one of the city's finest cultural institutions with one of the country's foremost contemporary dance ensembles. The commission centers on the Theater's mission to collaborate with, and present, Chicago's midsize and emerging arts organizations in innovative ways.

Appearing in Seattle for the very first time, Ballet du Grand Theatre de Geneve has a rich, century-long history in Switzerland. Known for its exceptional, classically trained dancers and a repertory of varied works by today's leading choreographers, the company is considered one of the most original and inventive dance companies in Europe. For their Seattle debut, Ballet Geneve will perform the evening-length Preludes et Fugues by acclaimed Israeli choreographer Emanuel Gat, an hypnotic reflection on human interaction set to Bach's Well-Tempered Clavier performed to live, solo piano by Brooks Tran.
