Juilliard Drama Announces 2018-19 Season

Juilliard Drama begins its inaugural year under the leadership of Obie-winning director Evan Yionoulis, Richard Rodgers Director of the Drama Division. Current acting director Richard Feldman will resume his role as associate director and faculty member. The 2018-19  season features fully staged productions showcasing Juilliard's Group 48 acting students in their fourth and final year in the program.

PDFUHM's Department of Theatre and Dance presents legendary filmmaker and director Ingmar Bergman's Nora during the centennial year of his birth. Bergman, born July 14, 1918, is globally known for his work in the film industry directing, writing, and producing over sixty films over the course of forty years including The Seventh Seal, Wild Strawberries, and Fanny and Alexander. In addition to his career in film, Bergman also worked in theatre directing 170 plays and writing and adapting plays for the stage like Nora.

Helmke and featuring (alphabetically) Alyssa Brode, Tim Bryan, Carolyn Cuesta, Timothy Faulkner and Rachel Alise Sigman. Musical Direction by Lee Milhous. Stage managed by Emma Ricciardi. Lighting design by Andrena Wishnie. Presented by special arrangement with Music Theatre International (MTI).

A LITTLE NIGHT MUSIC Comes to BoHo Theatre

BoHo Theatre continues its 2018 season with Stephen Sondheim and Hugh Wheeler's classic musical A LITTLE NIGHT MUSIC, inspired by the Ingmar Bergman film SMILES OF A SUMMER NIGHT. Intimately staged with a focus on character and relationships, A LITTLE NIGHT MUSIC challenges audiences and artists alike with its complex musicality and darkly comedic themes of love and longing. The production is directed by Linda Fortunato, who has previously worked with BoHo on NEXT TO NORMAL, PARADE, and KISS OF THE SPIDER WOMAN, with music direction by fellow BoHo alum Tom Vendafreddo (THE SPITFIRE GRILL).

Celebrate the 100th Anniversary of Ingmar Bergman's Birth with NORA

PDFUHM's Department of Theatre and Dance presents legendary filmmaker and director Ingmar Bergman's Nora during the centennial year of his birth.  Bergman, born July 14, 1918, is globally known for his work in the film industry directing, writing, and producing over sixty films over the course of forty years including The Seventh Seal, Wild Strawberries, and Fanny and Alexander.  In addition to his career in film, Bergman also worked in theatre directing 170 plays and writing and adapting plays for the stage like Nora.  To celebrate the centennial of his birth, film institutes around the world like Cinemateket, the Norwegian Film Institute in Oslo; the Detroit Film Theater; and the Flimhuset in Stockholm, Sweden are hosting retrospectives screening Bergman's works.  Here in Honolulu, audiences can celebrate the 100th anniversary of his birth by attending Kennedy Theatre's production of Nora, a stage version of Henrik Ibsen's A Doll House by Ingmar Bergman adapted and translated by Frederick J. Marker and Lise-Lone Marker.  Nora runs April 13-22 with shows at 7:30 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays, and at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 22.  

Final Artists Confirmed For NORDIC STAGE: A Festival of New Scandinavian Theater

Nordic Stage will feature works from seven Scandinavian playwrights, including writers from The Bergman Studio & Dramaten/The Royal Dramatic Theatre in Sweden. The Festival's goal is to highlight the diversity of work being produced in Scandinavia today, featuring plays with a variety of genres, styles and subject matter.

UHM's Department of Theatre and Dance is proud to present legendary filmmaker Ingmar Bergman's Nora, a stage version of Henrik Ibsen's masterpiece A Doll House, adapted and translated by Frederick J. Marker.  This fast-paced adaptation directed by Assistant Professor of Theatre, Stacy Ray, shows the choices one woman makes for love and offers the audience a modern spin on a classic work allowing them to call to mind what they themselves would do for love. The play, filled with juicy secrets, looming debts, and difficult choices, runs on the Kennedy Theatre Mainstage April 13, 14, 20, and 21 at 7:30 p.m. and on April 22 at 2:00 p.m.; there will be free pre-show chats on April 14 and 21 at 6:45 p.m. for ticket holders.  Due to some sexual situations and adult themes, this production is not recommended for children under 13.
