Lyric Opera of Chicago continues the 2019/20 season with a revival of its original, provocative Don Giovanni, marking the return of Tony Award-winning Goodman Theatre Artistic Director Robert Falls. Set in 1920s Spain, Falls' 'jazz age' Don Giovanni is riveting and bold and won enthusiastic acclaim when it opened Lyric's 60th anniversary season in 2014.

Baritone Peter Mattei and bass-baritone Luca Pisaroni star as opera's most notorious seducer in Mozart's masterpiece of dark comedy. Cornelius Meister makes his Met debut conducting performances that also include sopranos Rachel Willis-Sørensen and Guanqun Yu as Donna Anna, sopranos Federica Lombardi and Susanna Phillips as Donna Elvira, and basses Ildar Abdrazakov and Adam Plachetka as Leporello. 

According to a quote attributed to Andy Warhol, if you want to tell a good painting from a bad one, first look at a thousand paintings; then you'll realize that there are no hard and fast rules. When it comes to performing arts and traditional repertoire, the standards are a little different. Directors, designers and cast are expected to add their two cents to work of the creators, to show their smarts and insights (or at least come up with something they think will be more meaningful to modern/younger audiences). Six new and new-to-Chicago productions including three Lyric premieres and three performances of the Ring cycle will engage and entertain audiences from late September 2019 through June 2020.

The Metropolitan Opera presents Mozart's timeless drama Don Giovanni, with 12 performances January 30, 2019, to April 18, 2019. All performances of Michael Grandage's production are conducted by Cornelius Meister in his Met debut.

Tickets go on sale today for the Met's Emmy® and Peabody Award-winning Live in HD series' 2017-18 season, which begins on October 7 with the company's new production of Bellini's Norma.

Javier Camarena, Ildar Abdrazakov and Ryan Speedo Green complete the all-star bel canto cast.

Gareth Morrell will replace Maurizio Benini as conductor for Rossini's Semiramide at the Met on Saturday March 3, 2018, at 8.00pm. The British conductor led the opera on February 24th and 28th, 2018.

Robert McPherson will sing the role of Idreno in Rossini's Semiramide for tonight's performance, February 28 at 7.30pm, replacing Javier Camarena who is ill. The American tenor also replaced Camarena on Saturday February 24, 2018.

The Peterborough Players will present a live screening of the Metropolitan Opera's Semiramde on Saturday, March 10 at 1:00pm.
