Cygnet Theatre kicks off 2014 by presenting the San Diego premiere of a new comedy that stirs up powerful questions about what people are willing to sacrifice for happiness. Cygnet has snagged the rights to present the Southern California premiere of Jordan Harrison's Maple and Vine, a sensation last season Off-Broadway at New York's Playwrights Horizons. Maple and Vine is a comedy about a couple who have become allergic to their 21st century lives and decide to move into a closed-community of 1950s re-enactors who forsake their cell phones and sushi for poodle-skirts, milkmen and Tupperware parties. Performances for Maple and Vine run today, January 16th through February 16th. Opening Night is January 25th.

York Theatre Company launched its new "New2NY" series last weekend with a concert presentation and New York premiere of the musical Jack: A Musical Drama on the Life of John F. Kennedy, with book and lyrics by Tom Sawyer and Will Holt, music by Will Holt, and based on a an original concept by Tom Sawyer. Reginald Rose's tension filled Tony Award winning play Twelve Angry Men is certainly a wonderful selection for the second show of the John W. Engeman Theatre's seventh season. Not to mention that it is emotionally on the other side of the spectrum from their previous show - the adorably hilarious Nunsense. This superb showing, running through November 3rd at the stunning Long Island venue, is excellently directed by Igor Goldin and continues the intense atmosphere that Mr. Rose created starting with a TV broadcast in 1954.
