BWW Review: NEW WORKS LAB at UCB Department Of Theatre

The year-end New Works Lab at UCSB, which challenges students to write, direct, design, and perform short plays, gives students a chance to experiment with form, style, and collaboration. This year's plays offered comedy, drama, and an excursion into the absurd, while expressing insecurities about the future on both a personal and global level.

Mathew Horne and Ed Speleers to Star in RAIN MAN By Dan Gordon

Bill Kenwright presents the inaugural Classic Screen to Stage Theatre Company production of RAIN MAN. Mathew Horne (Gavin & Stacey, The Catherine Tate Show) stars as Raymond Babbit opposite Ed Speleers (Downton Abbey, Wolf Hall) as Charlie Babbit. RAIN MAN opens at Windsor Theatre Royal on 21 August, before embarking on a UK tour to Milton Keynes, Cardiff, Eastbourne, Southend, Edinburgh, Cambridge, Brighton, Guildford, Leeds, Richmond, Derby and Northampton. Further dates and casting to be announced in due course.

Comedy Central Expands Its Annual Up Next Showcase at Clusterfest This June

Comedy Central builds on its success of last year's Up Nextshowcase at Clusterfest, featuring the network's rising stars, by including another stand-up showcase and adding a variety showcase. The weekend will highlight over 20 comedians with two separate and distinct stand-up showcases taking place on Friday, June 1, hosted by Chris Redd with special guest Tim Dillon and Saturday, June 2, hosted by Jullian McCollough with special guest Mark Normand; and a brand new variety showcase taking place on Sunday, June 3, hosted by Matthew Broussard. All shows will be held at the Bill Graham Civic Auditorium in the 415 Comedy Club room.

Library Of Congress Hosts World War I Solo Show

On May 26th, at 2 pm, Douglas Taurel, actor, and creator of the acclaimed solo show The American Soldier will perform his second one man show An Americans Soldier's Journey Home at the Library of Congress in Washington, DC. The performance will be held in the Library's Coolidge Auditorium, Ground Floor, Thomas Jefferson Building, 10 First Street SE, Washington, DC at 2pm.

New Animal Planet Series EXTINCT OR ALIVE Premieres Sunday, June 10

What if extinct animals weren't really extinct? The methods used to declare a species extinct are not as fool proof as people might assume. From eyewitness accounts to last known photographs, there is evidence that suggests some of these creatures are still very much alive in the wild. The search is on for wildlife adventurer and biologist Forrest Galante, as he explores the real stories behind animals thought to be gone forever and tries to prove their existence so he can protect them and help them thrive again. EXTINCT OR ALIVE premieres on Animal Planet on Saturday, June 10 at 9PM ET/PT but you can catch a sneak peek episode during Monster Week on June 3 at 10PM ET/PT.

The House Theatre Of Chicago Announces 17th Season

The House Theatre of Chicago announces its 17th season of creating "Amazing Feats of Storytelling" with productions taking place at the Chopin Theatre, 1543 W. Division St. The 2018 - 19 Season features three world premiere titles, and two returning audience favorites, creating a diverse slate of epic stories and stagecraft.  The season opens with a brand-new work written by guest artist Bennett Fisher, and helmed by guest artist Monty Cole. Borealis is a brother/sister adventure story offering a heartfelt look at the way we fail each other by building narratives to support our pre-existing worldviews. Borealis plays at the Chopin August 30 to October 21. In the spring, The House will premiere Pinocchio adapted for the stage by Company Members Joseph Steakely and Ben Lobpries, and directed by Company Member Chris Mathews. Pinocchio's wish to become a 'real boy' invites us to reconsider definitions of identity. Pinocchio plays at the Chopin from March 28 to May 19, 2019. 

Philip Hoffman to Play Harry Weinberg in A LETTER TO HARVEY MILK Through May 27

Broadway's Philip Hoffman will play the role of Harry Weinberg in the musical A Letter to Harvey Milk through May 27. The musical extended its run at through June 30, 2018 and will release its cast album on May 22 (Harvey Milk's birthday) at Theatre Row's Acorn Theatre (410 W 42 Street) through June 30,2018. Babes With Blades Theatre Company (BWBTC) starts its 21st Season with the world premiere of The Lady Demands Satisfaction, playing at City Lit Theater, 1020 W. Bryn Mawr Ave., July 21 - August 25.  Winner of the most recent Joining Sword and Pen Competition, and developed in 2017-18 through BWBTC's Fighting Words Program, this play is written by Arthur M. Jolly, directed by Babes With Blades Theater Company Member Morgan Manasa with combat by Violence Designer and BWBTC Member Samantha Kaufman.

Carnegie Hall Offers Two Summer Music Educators Workshop Sessions

From July 11-14 and July 25-28, Carnegie Hall will host two Summer Music Educators Workshop sessions, giving music teachers from across the country the opportunity to re-energize their teaching practice, learn from leaders in the field, and exchange best practices with peers. Over the course of four intensive days, participating educators will engage with expert guest faculty on a range of topics. The first session, "You Are What You Play," will explore how to open students' minds and hearts to the power of artful, rich, and engaging repertoire. The second session, "Dare to Create," will look at ways to use composition and improvisation to inspire students inside and outside the classroom.

Lightning Bolt Productions Presents Stephen Sondheim's INTO THE WOODS This June

Into the Woods, the multi-award-winning (Tony Awards, Drama Desk Awards, Olivier Awards) musical by Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine, skillfully interweaves several classic fairy tales into one epic story that shows what happens when things get real in the fairy-tale world. Lightning Bolt Productions upcoming production of this acclaimed Broadway musical will run at the West Boca Performing Arts Center at West Boca High School* from June 8th through 17th.
