Gillespie Concert Organ, located in the Renee and Henry Segerstrom Concert Hall. Built from steel, tin, oak, poplar, maple, lead and carbon fiber, the astounding instrument found in the Symphony's concert hall required three years and 42,000 hours of labor by a team of organ builders at C.B Fisk in Gloucester, Mass., before making its debut with Pacific Symphony in 2008.

The third week of Lincoln Center's Mostly Mozart Festival, August 11 through 16, features 11 events comprising orchestral performances, late-night recitals, contemporary music, a lecture, and the U.S. stage premiere ofWritten on Skin, a highly-acclaimed opera by George Benjamin, this summer's Composer-in-Residence and the centerpiece of the Festival's focus on his music.

He's held a series of major conducting posts, including the L.A. Philharmonic and the London Symphony Orchestra, but now exclusively composes. The concert features performances by chansonnier Pieter Embrechts and countertenor Nathan Medley in a staged production by Chromatic, a Los Angeles-based production company led by director James Darrah.

The Brooklyn-based composer Paola Prestini's work has been deemed "radiant [and] amorously evocative" by The New York Times, which has also hailed "her gift for bringing together disparate artists, technicians and other creative professionals to produce cross-disciplinary works greater than the sum of their parts." Her multimedia opera Oceanic Verses perfectly reveals her sensibility as a composer, a creator of multimedia productions, and a wholeheartedly entrepreneurially artist. She commissioned the work through her non-profit company, VisionIntoArt (VIA), whose new label, VIA Records, will release Prestini's music and collaborator Ali Hossaini's visuals as a beautifully designed CD/DVD package on November 18.
