Sonia Friedman Productions is delighted to announce that Asmeret Ghebremichael has joined the company of Dreamgirls to perform the role of Lorrell Robinson. She began performances this week.

'Side Show', with a book and lyrics by Bill Russell and music by Henry Krieger, is based on the story of Daisy and Violet Hilton. It's on stage at The Media Theatre through March 26.

As previously announced, Kevin Depinet, will be returning to TUTS as Scenic Designer for the theatre's upcoming production of DREAMGIRLS. Depinet also acted a Scenic Designer for TUTS' acclaimed production of INTO THE WOODS in December of 2016.

Opening tonight on Broadway, Come From Away spotlights the town of Gander, Newfoundland, which became the temporary home of over 6,000 passengers whose planes were rerouted during the 9/11 attacks. In its dramatization of real-life figures such as Beverley Bass, a stranded pilot portrayed by Jenn Colella, and Claude Elliott, the Gander mayor brought to life by Joel Hatch, the musical provides a historical recount of the week following 9/11, heavily inspired by true stories of the compassion and camaraderie that came about in Gander.

Today, past winners Denise Gough and Matt Henry announced the nominations for the Olivier Awards 2017 with Mastercard, the most prestigious event in the UK's theatrical calendar. The 2017 awards are set to be the biggest yet, as they make their debut at the Royal Albert Hall on Sunday 9 April.

This dazzling work, featuring music by Henry Krieger (Dreamgirls), and book/lyrics by Bill Russell (Pageant, Lucky Duck), was nominated for four 1998 Tony Awards including Best Musical, Best Score, Best Book, and Best Actress. The 2014 revival, which incorporates a revised script and several new songs, received additional critical acclaim, was nominated for five Drama Desk Awards including Outstanding Revival, and was awarded the 2015 Helen Hayes Award for Outstanding Musical. Side Show is based on the true story of Daisy and Violet Hilton, conjoined twins who rose from a sideshow attraction to become sensational vaudeville stars in the 1930s. Effie might indeed be going... to Broadway. According to the New York Post, London producer Sonia Friedman is already looking for a Broadway Theater to transfer the West End production, which has been bringing audiences to their feet nightly.

Theatre Under The Stars Artistic Advisor Sheldon Epps will serve as Director for the upcoming production of the six-time Tony winning show when it hits the TUTS stage at the Hobby Center for the Performing Arts in Houston next spring.

Producers of the West End revival of DREAMGIRLS turned to Twitter today to announce that Amber Riley, who has missed the last several performances of the show, has been diagnosed with pneumonia.
