It is the story of Henrietta Leavitt who helped determine the vastness and depth of the universe in an age when women at Harvard College Observatory, where she worked, were not even allowed to look through the telescope.
In the late 19th century, Henrietta Leavitt served as one of the women computers at the Harvard Observatory. She became focused on recording information about the stars and the new understanding of their significance. SILENT SKY showcases her remarkable talent, determination and ingenuity. Her discovery impacted the scientific progress that led to the Hubble Telescope and significantly contributed to current understanding of the universe. As a woman, she was not offered the Nobel Prize, but scientists today recognize her incredible contribution.

The Equity professional East Lynne Theater Company is enjoying another 'Thankful Thursday' at Cold Spring Brewery from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on March 8. Like ELTC's special Thursday last March, there will be free snacks, and the brewery will give ELTC a percentage of the receipts, but this year, there's also live music.
