Legendary Theatrical Publicist Shirley Herz Dies at 87

Shirley Herz, a legendary theatrical press agent, died on Sunday, August 11, 2013 at the Mount Sinai Hospital in New York. The cause was complications from a stroke suffered on July 18, said Sam Altman, a longtime friend.

RareMedia Productions has announced the world premiere of Judgment Day, a new comedy by Maria S. Schlatter, starring Donald Corren (Souvenir, Old Jews Telling Jokes) whom The New York Times calls 'a chameleonic wonder' as part of this summer's New York International Fringe Festival. Performances begin tonight, August 9th (playing through August 25th) at The Players Theatre (115 MacDougal Street). Michael Schwartz directs.

KINKY BOOTS Breaks Box Office Record For Fifth Time Since June

Producers Daryl Roth and Hal Luftig announced today that Kinky Boots, this year's Tony Award-winning Best Musical, has set a new box office record at the Al Hirschfeld Theatre, for the fifth time since the week ending June 16, 2013. Kinky Boots' gross for the week ending July 28, 2013 was $1,612,845.00, the highest for any eight-show week at the Hirschfeld Theatre. Prior to Kinky Boots, the holiday favorite Elf held the Hirschfeld's house record for an 8-performance week, grossing $1,464,912.50 in December 2010.

Theatre Communications Group (TCG), the national organization for theatre, is pleased to partner with the Alliance of Resident Theatres/New York (A.R.T./New York) and The Broadway League to represent theatres in the coalition of performing arts organizations, religious institutions and professional sports leagues supporting PARDON THE INTERRUPTION: a Capitol Hill Forum to protect wireless microphones from the threat of harmful interference posed by the reorganization of the broadcast spectrum and a new generation of electronic devices. The office of Congressman Bobby L. Rush (D-IL-1) will host testimonials about the pivotal role of wireless microphones in the U.S. economy and culture from multiple Tony Awarda-winning actor and playwright Harvey Fierstein, as well as representatives from Broadway, not-for-profit theatres, mega-churches and major league sports.

Theater for the New City and Crystal Field, Artistic Director are pleased to announce the world premiere production of Gaspare DiBlasi's 'L'Chayim', directed by Jesse Marchese (Assistant to the Artistic Director of Off-Broadway's award-winning Mint Theater Company) as part of their 2013 Dream Up Festival. Today in 2008, A Catered Affair closed at the Walter Kerr Theatre, where it ran for 116 performances. A Catered Affair is a musical with a book by Harvey Fierstein and music and lyrics by John Bucchino. It is based on both the 1956 film The Catered Affair written by Gore Vidal and the original 1955 teleplay by Paddy Chayefsky, set in 1953 in the Bronx. John Doyle directed the production, which starred Fierstein, Faith Prince and Tom Wopat.

92nd Street Y has announced that Jordan Roth, President of Jujamcyn Theaters, continues his popular interview series, "Broadway Talks with Jordan Roth," with award winning stage and screen star Cherry Jones on Sunday, October 27 at 7:30 p.m. Ms. Jones, the Emmy and Tony Award-winning star of "24" and Doubt, will return to the Broadway stage this season as Amanda Wingfield in Tennessee Williams's The Glass Menagerie.
