Powell III, director, and Franklin Kelly, deputy director and chief curator, National Gallery of Art, announced today that 6,430 works of art have been selected initially from more than 17,000 Corcoran works in the Gallery's custody to join the nation's collection of European and American art. As curators continue to review the collection of the Corcoran Gallery of Art, the newly accessioned objects will have an immediate impact across NGA's collections and will be particularly transformative for its holdings of American art in all media.

Dodge Poetry Festival. Dodge Poetry Festival, has announced that a program focusing on war veterans and their families will be one of the special events taking place during the 15th biennial Dodge Poetry Festival, presented in partnership with the New Jersey Performing Arts Center (NJPAC) and the City of Newark, from October 23-26, 2014. The Festival will take place for the third time at NJPAC and other nearby venues in Newark, New Jersey's Downtown Arts District.

An exhibition from the Smithsonian Institution Traveling Exhibition Service (SITES) arrives at Phoenix Art Museum and will feature rare paintings by William H. Johnson, from the collection of the James E. Lewis Museum at Morgan State University. An essential figure in modern American art, William H. Johnson (1901-1970) was a virtuoso skilled in various media and techniques, and produced thousands of works over a career that spanned decades, continents, and genres.
