BWW Review: Joyce DiDonato's EDEN is a Little Less than Paradise at Carnegie Hall

Joyce DiDonato’s recitals-as-events--where she introduces her personal philosophies as well as her art into the evening--have their ups and downs. Sometimes they are marvelous. Saturday night at Carnegie Hall, the concert, directed by Marie Lambert-Le Bihan with lighting by John Torres, that also served as part of her publicity tour for her new recording, EDEN (Erato), seemed less than the sum of its parts.

National Philharmonic Announces 2022-2023 Season

National Philharmonic has announced its 2022-2023 season, which includes eight classical programs conducted by Music Director Piotr Gajewski and two by Chorale Artistic Director Stan Engebretson; two pops shows led by Principal Pops Conductor Luke Frazier; and a piano recital.

Violinist Stefan Jackiw is Set to Perform Alongside the Princeton Symphony Orchestra

On Saturday, May 7 at 8pm and Sunday, May 8 at 4pm, the Princeton Symphony Orchestra (PSO) presents its Milanov & Jackiw concert featuring violin virtuoso Stefan Jackiw. Jackiw performs Erich Wolfgang Korngold’s lush Violin Concerto in D Major, Op. 35 on a program with Gabriela Lena Frank’s Elegía Andina and Felix Mendelssohn’s “Scottish” Symphony No. 3 in A Minor, Op. 56. Edward T. Cone Music Director Rossen Milanov conducts both concerts at Richardson Auditorium in Alexander Hall, on the campus of Princeton University.Milanov and Jackiw are no strangers, having performed with the Detroit Symphony Orchestra in 2015, the RTV Slovenia Symphony Orchestra in 2019, and, most recently, with the Columbus Symphony Orchestra this past October. Milanov invited the violinist to play with the PSO in March 2020, but that performance was pre-empted by the pandemic.

Mezzo-soprano Joyce DiDonato to Perform at Carnegie Hall

Mezzo-soprano Joyce DiDonato brings her latest innovative project to Stern Auditorium / Perelman Stage on Saturday, April 23 at 8:00 p.m. Titled EDEN, the program explores our individual connection to nature and its impact on our world and features Ms. DiDonato’s frequent collaborators Maxim Emelyanychev leading Italian chamber orchestra Il Pomo d’Oro. Fusing music, movement, and theater, the program includes works spanning from the 17th to the 21st century by Handel, Gluck, Wagner, Mahler, Ives, and Copland, as well as the New York premiere of Academy Award-winning composer Rachel Portman’s The First Morning of the World, commissioned specifically for this project.

California Symphony Unveils 2022-23 Season

La importante labor de Mario Lavista (Ciudad de México, 3 de abril, 1943 - 4 de noviembre, 2021) como compositor, profesor y divulgador de la música será reconocida en el homenaje que la mezzosoprano Encarnación Vázquez y el pianista Alberto Cruzprieto le rendirán en el aniversario de su nacimiento, el domingo 3 de abril a las 18:00 horas en la Sala Manuel M. Ponce del Palacio de Bellas Artes, como parte del ciclo Los colores de la voz del Instituto Nacional de Bellas Artes y Literatura (Inbal) y en el marco de la estrategia #VolverAVerte de la Secretaría de Cultura federal. 

American Youth Symphony to Host 57th Annual Gala

The American Youth Symphony, led by Music Director Carlos Izcaray, will celebrate its landmark 2021-22 season and the exceptional talent of its musicians at the 57th Annual Gala on Saturday, April 30th, 2022. The concert program begins at 5 p.m. and features John Adams' Short Ride on a Fast Machine, the world premiere of Alexander Mansour's Zephyr, and Gustav Mahler's Symphony No. 5. Bravo! Vail Music Festival Announces 35th Season, June 23 - August 4, 2022

The internationally acclaimed Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra joins Bravo! Vail for its second year in residency at the Festival.
