Maher Benham and Coyote Dancers announce three evenings of works choreographed by Ms. Benham, and dedicated to her company's beloved teacher, mentor, and friend Dudley Williams (1938-2015). The evening will feature the world premiere of Ms. Benham's 'A Song for Dudley,' along with Coyote repertory works, including 'Eight for Martha,' dedicated to Martha Graham, October 23-25 at the Martha Graham Studio Theatre. The Coyote resident ensemble of 16 dancers will be joined by a distinguished roster of guests, most either past or current members of the Martha Graham Dance Company. Presented by Maher Benham and Coyote Dancers in collaboration with Deborah Zall and Classic Contemporary Dance Heritage, Ltd.

On October 23 & 24, Persona, a new opera from composer Keeril Makan and adaptor / librettist / director Jay Scheib, will make its world premiere at National Sawdust. Commissioned by Beth Morrison Projects and National Sawdust, and adapted by Scheib from Ingmar Bergman's film of the same name, Persona is a provocative, highly cerebral, and artistically complex depiction of human frailty, cruelty and identity. These world premiere performances—which represent the first opera staged at National Sawdust—feature music direction by Evan Ziporyn and music by the ensemble Either/Or.

The NY Dance and Performance Awards, The Bessies, New York City's premier dance awards honoring outstanding creative work in the field, announced the complete list of 2015 award recipients tonight at the 31st Annual Bessie Awards ceremony. Produced in partnership with Dance/NYC, The Bessies were held at the legendary Apollo Theater at 7:30pm. The full list of Bessie Award recipients follows!

Eryc Taylor Dance will present the U.S. premiere of The Exhibit, a new immersive evening of dance featuring five contemporary dance works, running for six performances, October 15 - 18, 2015 at The Alchemical Theatre Laboratory, 104 W. 14th Street, The Exhibit features five works with multiple narratives, choreographed by Eryc Taylor in collaboration with company members. The pieces will be performed consecutively in one large performance space; the standing audience will be free to move about and follow the dancers to different areas of the room to witness the pieces from various perspectives.

Jock Soto & Carmelita Tropicana to Host 31st Annual Bessie Awards

The NY Dance and Performance Awards, The Bessies, New York City's premier dance awards honoring outstanding creative work in the field, announce the lineup of special guests for the 2015 ceremony. Acclaimed former New York City Ballet principal Jock Soto and performance artist and playwright Carmelita Tropicana will host the event. The 31st Annual Bessie Awards will be held on Monday, October 19, at 7:30pm, at the legendary Apollo Theater in New York City. Doors open at 6:30pm for red carpet and pre-show celebrations.

DANCENOWNYC continues its 20th anniversary celebration with the 2015 DANCENOW Joe's Pub Festival. The New York Dance and Performance Awards (The Bessies), New York City's premier dance awards honoring outstanding creative work in the field, today announced the nominees for the 2014-15 season at its annual press conference. The 37 nominees were selected by the Bessies Selection Committee, an independent committee of 39 dance industry professionals. Produced in partnership with Dance/NYC, Bessie Award categories include Outstanding Production, Outstanding Revival, Outstanding Performer, Outstanding Music Composition or Sound Design, and Outstanding Visual Design.
