?Stage Rights has announced that Laura King is the recipient of the first ever Ready to Publish Award, which will be given annually in partnership with the Southeastern Theatre Conference (SETC). Laura was selected from five finalists who pitched their scripts at this year's SETC Annual Convention held in Greensboro, North Carolina.

Unicorn Theatre, under the artistic leadership of Producing Artistic Director Cynthia Levin, announces the 43rd season of thought-provoking new plays. The new season will open September 7, 2016 and include eight regular season shows. Subscriptions for the new season are on sale now. In addition to a full line up of new productions to Kansas City, the Unicorn will also continue the In-Progress New Play Reading Series, bringing scripts in development and under consideration for production in upcoming seasons before the public. Veteran director Andy Sandberg's newest project is the play STRAIGHT, which he is bringing to life Off-Broadway. Straight tells the story of Ben, a 26 year old investment banker, and his relationships with his longtime girlfriend Emily and a new young guy named Chris. The new play is turning heads Off-Broadway and is proving to be quite the conversation starter.

Casting is complete for LaunchingFWD : Season 2, the second annual sneak preview concert of new musicals in development offered by FWD Theatre Project, one of the most-watched new arts organizations in town. Last year's LaunchingFWD event (starring headliner and hometown superstar Jessie Mueller in her first Chicago appearance since winning the Tony Award for Beautiful) sold out the 320 seat main room at City Winery and required overflow seating; FWD hopes this year's event will be even more impressive.
FWD Theatre Project to Launch Season 2

When FWD Theatre Project introduced itself in 2014 (at City Winery Chicago,) audiences, actors, producers, and critics took notice. Something special had arrived for the city's arts community and for the future of musical theatre in Chicago. A group of seasoned theatre professionals combined to create a Festival of Works in Development, part of an effort to build Chicago into a premiere destination for writers and creators to showcase their new musicals in process. One year later and FWD's inaugural season of five staged readings - selected from the world's best projects on offer - was a success, selling out many of its events at a variety of Chicago venues.
2015 Stage Rights/NYMF Publishing Award Winner Announced

Stage Rights announced this week that Acappella is the recipient of the 2015 Stage Rights/NYMF Publishing Award. Roger Bean, President and Founder of Stage Rights, presented the award to book writer Vynnie Meli, who accepted on behalf of the entire Acappella team. Stage Rights and The New York Musical Theatre Festival (NYMF) created the publishing award in 2013, and it is presented annually to one or more of the musicals taking part in the festival. Performance rights for Acappella will be available through Stage Rights in spring 2016.
