Five days after closing on Broadway, the late Gore Vidal's political drama The Best Man lands on the Heritage Center stage in Morrisville for a September 14 - October 7 run. The Actors' NET of Bucks County launches its 17th season with co-founder Joe Doyle directing Vidal's tale of back-biting and blackmail at a fictitious 1960 political Convention in Philadelphia.

The limited engagement of the Tony-nominated revival of Gore Vidal's THE BEST MAN gave its final performance today, Sunday, September 9, 2012 at the Gerald Schoenfeld Theatre. Gore Vidal's THE BEST MAN began previews on Broadway on March 6, 2012, and opened on April 1, 2012. Upon closing, the show will have played 209 performances. The critically-acclaimed revival about dirty tricks and double-dealing at a political convention recouped its investment just as the 2012 Republican National Convention began. The Old Globe today announced the cast and creative team for the San Diego Premiere of Pulitzer Prize winner David Lindsay-Abaire's Good People, the award-winning play about class divisions in modern-day Boston. Directed by Paul Mullins, Good People will run Sept. 29 - Oct. 28, 2012 in the Sheryl and Harvey White Theatre, part of the Globe's Conrad Prebys Theatre Center. Preview performances run Sept. 29 - Oct. 3. Warner Bros. Theatre Ventures in association with Unique Features announced today that the hit musical ELF will star Tony® Award winner Beth Leavel (Emily), Tony® Award nominee Mark Jacoby (Walter), Valerie Wright (Deb), Adam Heller (Mr. Greenway) and Michael Mandell (Store Manager). Leavel, Jacoby, Wright and Mandell are reprising the roles they originated in the 2010 production of ELF. Additional casting will be announced soon.

Danforth) have announced their Fall/Winter 2012 Programming Schedule of over 40 special performances, events and educational offerings that include intimate evenings with actors David Schwimmer, Michael Shannon, David Hyde Pierce and casting director Bernard Telsey.

The Last Smoker in America, with book and lyrics by Tony Award® Nominee Bill Russell (Side Show) and music by Drama Desk Nominee Peter Melnick (Adrift in Macao), with direction by Tony Award® winning producer and director Andy Sandberg (Hair; Gore Vidal's The Best Man), choreography by Tony Award® nominee AC Ciulla (Footloose) and music supervision, arrangements, and orchestrations by Fred Lassen (The Gershwin's Porgy & Bess), will play its final performance this evening, September 1, 2012 upstairs at the Westside Theatre (407 West 43rd Street). Previews began on July 11, 2012 with Opening Night on August 2, 2012.

Westport Country Playhouse stages the world premiere of a new comedy, "Harbor," written by two-time Tony Award nominee Chad Beguelin and directed by Playhouse artistic director Mark Lamos, now through September 15. The cast includes Tony Award nominee Bobby Steggert (Broadway's "Ragtime"), Emmy Award nominee Paul Anthony Stewart ("Guiding Light"), Kate Nowlin and Alexis Molnar. The Delaware Theatre Company announced today that Michael Learned, of the 'The Waltons,' will be starring in DTC's October production of The Outgoing Tide. A drama by Barrymore Award-winning playwright Bruce Graham, The Outgoing Tide runs at the Delaware Theatre Company Wednesday, October 10 through Sunday, October 28, 2012 and marks the first show of DTC's 2012-2013 season. Directed by Executive Director Bud Martin, the production will then move to 59E59 Theaters in New York for six weeks: November 8 through December 16, following its three week run in Wilmington, Delaware.

Reviewing mindless fun can be dangerous terrain.  In the first half of the last century magnificent wits like P.G. Wodehouse and George S. Kaufman wrote the books for mindlessly fun musical comedies showcasing scores by the likes of Cole Porter, Rodgers and Hart and the Gershwins that invented a new sophistication in American music and lyrics.  The plots may have been silly, but the mindless fun of 1920s and 30s (Of Thee I Sing, Anything Goes, The Boys From Syracuse for starters) was often literate and inventive.
