Opera Exposure Presents 10th Anniversary Holiday Concert, 12/21

Opera Exposures, the not-for-profit opera company founded in 2004 by Edna Greenwich, will celebrate the end of its tenth year with a holiday concert on Sunday, December 21, 2014, at 3 PM at the same venue where it all began for the company in February 2004 - St. Marks Church in the Bowery, 131 East Tenth Street at Second Avenue in Manhattan.

The Houston Chamber Choir presents this seasonal tradition tonight, December 13 and Sunday, December 14 at 3:30 and 7:30 pm at the Chapel of the Villa de Matel, located at 6510 Lawndale Avenue.

North Carolina Opera is thrilled to bring a cutting-edge opera experience to Triangle patrons this January with Approaching Ali, a 50-minute contemporary chamber opera. In his operatic debut, Richmond-based composer D.J. Sparr's Approaching Ali stunned and delighted Kennedy Center audiences last year in a performance that the Washington Times called “intensely emotional.”

Renee Fleming to Star in the Met's New Production of THE MERRY WIDOW, Beginning 12/31

Renée Fleming will add a new role to her extensive repertory when she sings her first-ever performances of Hanna Glawari, the title role in Lehár's The Merry Widow, at the Met this season. Four-time Tony Award winner Susan Stroman makes her Met debut as director and choreographer of a new production of the comic operetta, in which a wealthy widow's countrymen launch a romantic plot to keep her -- and her tax dollars -- within their borders.

George London Foundation to Present Angela Meade & Nicholas Pallesen in Recital Next Month

Soprano Angela Meade is a 2008 George London Award winner who is the youngest singer ever to grace the cover of the annual "Diva" issue of Opera News (November 2014). Baritone Nicholas Pallesen is a 2013 George London Award winner making his New York recital debut. Joined by pianists Danielle Orlando and Craig Rutenberg, they will perform a duo recital on Sunday, January 11, 2015, at 4:30 PM at The Morgan Library & Museum, presented by the George London Foundation for Singers. Both singers were featured in The Audition, the documentary about the 2007 Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions.

DANCE FROM THE HEART Returns Next Month at Joyce Theater

Dance from the Heart, produced by and benefiting Dancers Responding to AIDS, returns on Monday, January 26, 2015 at 7:30pm, with the rare opportunity to see on one stage the talents of American Ballet Theatre, Parsons Dance, Dorrance Dance, choreographer Sonya Tayeh and more at the Joyce Theater, 175 Eighth Avenue (at 19th Street).

Opera San Jose to Continue Season with World Premiere of WHERE ANGELS FEAR TO TREAD

Opera San José continues its 31st season with the WORLD PREMIERE of Where Angels Fear to Tread by American composer Mark Lanz Weiser, libretto by Roger Brunyate. This bold new opera, based on the novel by E. M. Forster, unveils a collision of cultures that leads to a misunderstanding of horrific consequences, set in motion when a rich English widow marries a middle-class but handsome young Italian against the wishes of her family. Where Angels Fear to Tread will be sung in English with English supertitles. Six performances are scheduled February 7 through 22 at the California Theatre, 345 South First Street in downtown San José. Tickets are on sale at the Opera San José Box Office, online at operasj.org or by phone at (408) 437-4450. Performances are supported, in part, by a grant from the San José Office of Cultural Affairs.

The Met's English-Language HANSEL AND GRETEL to Open 12/18

Continuing a tradition inaugurated in 2006, the Met will offer a holiday presentation this December and January: an English-language performance of an opera, with special weekday matinees and discount pricing designed to make the Met affordable for families with children. This year's production, Humperdinck's Hansel and Gretel, opens December 18 and will star Aleksandra Kurzak, Heidi Stober, and Andriana Chuchman as Gretel; Christine Rice and Jennifer Johnson Cano as Hansel; Michaela Martens and Dwayne Croft as Gertrude and Peter, the wayward children's parents; and Robert Brubaker as the wicked Witch who captures them. Sir Andrew Davis will conduct all seven performances of the opera, which plays through January 8. There will be special weekday matinees at 11 a.m. on December 23 and December 30.

Red Bull Theater to Present SHAKESPEARE AND THE JACOBEANS ON FILM in January

Red Bull Theater today announced a new three-part collaboration with the Shakespeare Society exploring Shakespeare and the Jacobeans on Film. The series includes a Shakespeare Society major member event (open to the public) and two film screenings. Prague Summer Nights Young Artists Music Festival to Premiere

Classical Movements will present a brand new young artist program for both instrumentalists and singers, debuting this summer in Prague. The Prague Summer Nights Young Artists Music Festival will premiere in the beautiful and historic city of Prague for concerts and opera performances, including four fully staged performances of Mozart's Don Giovanni under the stage direction of opera legend Sherrill Milnes and conductor John Nardolillo of the University of Kentucky School of Music.
