Sixty years after the historic march in Selma, Alabama, special events are being held in the city to honor legendary civil rights leader Martin Luther King, Jr, including a march by Oprah Winfrey and the cast of her new film SELMA.

Paul Hillier to Lead Houston Chamber Choir in 'BALTIC SEA CHANGE,' 2/21

World-renowned conductor Paul Hillier makes his Houston debut leading the Houston Chamber Choir in passionate music from the Baltic Sea. In the late 1980s, the world watched in admiration as three little Baltic countries overthrew their oppressive Soviet regimes. Throughout their struggle for freedom the Baltic peoples gathered by the thousands to draw strength from choral music in what became known as 'The Singing Revolution.' We pay tribute to their courage and resolve in a concert of music by Arvo Part and his fellow composers from Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania.

On the eve of Passover, Caleb DeLeon (played by Giovanni Mocibob), a critically wounded Jewish Confederate soldier, returns to his ruined home where two family slaves, wait. The three men are left to sort through the tangled history of slavery, race, and religion in Pacific Theatre's production of The Whipping Man by Matthew Lopez.

275,000 Students Receive Free Tickets to Academy Award-Nominated SELMA

An additional 12 locations have joined the growing movement led by African-American business leaders to raise funds for students across the country to see the Academy Award-nominated film “SELMA,” expanding the first-of-its-kind campaign to 25 locations nationwide.

Canadian Opera Company Announces Full 2015-2016 Season

Toronto – The world premiere of a new Canadian work was one of the many operatic highlights revealed today at the public launch of the Canadian Opera Company's 2015/2016season at the Four Seasons Centre for the Performing Arts. The COC's 65th season is once again comprised entirely of company productions, four of which are new to Toronto audiences, and features the COC's first mainstage world premiere since 1999, COC premieres of opera rarities and the revival of classic masterpieces.

Canadian Opera Company to Welcome Three New Rising Stars

Toronto – The Canadian Opera Company Ensemble Studio, Canada's premier training program for young opera professionals, welcomes three talented new Canadian artists for the 2015/2016 season. Tenors Charles Syand Aaron Sheppard were among the seven finalists featured in the fourth annual Ensemble Studio Competition in November 2014. Sy and Sheppard were top prize winners at the competitive vocal showcase which was the feature event of the COC's Ensemble Studio Competition Gala, Centre Stage, an evening dedicated to the discovery and celebration of the next generation of opera stars. In addition to the two opera singers, the 15/16 Ensemble Studio also welcomes pianist Hyejin Kwon.

More Cities to Bring SELMA to Students for Free

An additional five cities have joined the massive national campaign by African American business leaders to raise funds for free student admission to the Golden Globe-winning film 'SELMA,' expanding the unprecedented movement to a total of 13 cities, nationwide.

Tenor Russell Thomas will replace Brandon Jovanovich, who has withdrawn due to illness, in the New York Philharmonic performances of the Verdi Requiem, conducted by Music Director Alan Gilbert. The performances will also feature soprano Angela Meade (in her Philharmonic debut), mezzo-soprano Lilli Paasikivi, bass-baritone Eric Owens, and the New York Choral Artists, directed by Joseph Flummerfelt, this weekend, January 15, 2015, at 7:30 p.m.; Friday, January 16 at 7:30 p.m.; and Saturday, January 17 at 8:00 p.m.
