The Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual & Transgender Community Center Speakers series in collaboration with Playwrights Horizons (Tim Sanford, Artistic Director; Leslie Marcus, Managing Director) is pleased to announce an evening of engaging conversation about the theater company's upcoming world premiere of A Small Fire, a new play by Obie Award winner Adam Bock (The Drunken City at PH, The Receptionist, The Thugs, Swimming in the Shallows), featuring Mr. Bock, director Trip Cullman (Adam Bock's The Drunken City at PH and Swimming in the Shallows) and Tony Award-winning actress Michele Pawk (Hollywood Arms, Merrily We Roll Along, Chicago, Caberet and Seussical).

The production opens Friday, November 5, and runs through Sunday, November 14, 2010, at the Greenhouse Theater Center. Performances are Wednesdays through Saturdays at 7:30 PM and Sundays at 2 PM. A series of collaboratively curated play laboratories, SuperLab will support the creation of bold, risk-taking new works by living American playwrights. Supported by funds granted to Clubbed Thumb by Metlife/Theatre Communications Group's A-ha! Program, created to foster creative thinking and action among its member theaters, these two like-minded companies will join forces to produce a six-play development lab. Clubbed Thumb and Playwrights Horizons, who share a commitment to advancing distinctive new voices, will bridge a gap between downtown and uptown theater sensibilities, methodologies and artist rosters, expanding the range of experience and opportunity for all.

A great many wrong things can happen on a blind date, especially one between a couple of people that are such complete polar opposites of each other. But what happens when said blind date is not just an awful one... but, really, the worst blind date ever? Such is the premise of Gina Gionfriddo's engrossingly funny play BECKY SHAW, which recently had its West Coast premiere at South Coast Repertory and continues there through November 21. This off-Broadway hit-a recent nominee for the Pulitzer Prize-tells the story of one such blind date that is so awful and so doomed from the start that it actually sets off this chain reaction of searing arguments, intense revelations, and jaw-dropping events that forever alters the lives of everyone in the periphery. Make no mistake, though. This is one seriously hilarious play-but not for the reasons you may think.
