The South Coast Repertory Theater has announced its upcoming schedule for August through November, 2010.

AUGUST

August 7 ­­- 8 and 14 - 15 ? Julianne Argyros Stage
CINDERELLA
Presented by SCR's Summer Players

Everyone loves this story of a servant girl who's transformed into a princess! The fairy tale from long ago has been an opera, a pantomime, a ballet, an ice show, a comic book, a video game, many movies and plays. But this is the most fun-a song-filled show for all ages. Cinderella's only friends are a cat named Charles, a dove and four white mice. But add a pumpkin, a hip fairy godmother without wand or tutu ("Been there, done that!") and a little magic, and you know what happens! And don't forget the handsome prince who finds-and then loses-his own true love. He'll find her again, in spite of those mean stepsisters with feet too big for the glass slipper!

SCR and GBS-a relationship that has wowed theatre audiences with stellar productions and countless awards. Now the fun begins anew, and Shaw is at his mischievous best, turning his sharp wit to the relationship between parents and children. While the elders argue ideas and morals, the younger generation longs for action, adventure, love and independence. Especially Hypatia, who is tired of all the talk and ready for something to happen. Finally it does!

Broadway's latest mega-hit is set in the Victorian era, just before its corseted women shed their inhibitions. A new electric invention has been introduced to the medical world. Dr. Givings, one of its early champions, marvels at the effect it has on patients suffering from "female hysteria," while in the adjoining room, his own wife yearns for another kind of intimacy. This funny, tender and illuminating play has generated excitement from East Coast to West.

Like the Victorian upstart Becky Sharp, this modern Becky is unsure, overdressed and socially ambitious. But watch out. She's no shrinking violet, as the silkily cynical Max soon learns. From their first blind date, which includes an unscheduled visit to the police station, these 30-somethings, along with the newlyweds who set them up, surprise us-and themselves-in a comedy thriller The New York Times called "as engrossing as it is ferociously funny, like a big box of fireworks fizzing and crackling across the stage!"

The biggest hit of TYA's inaugural season is back-with sound kabooming and lights kaflashing! The classrooms of Wayside School are stacked one on top of the other thanks to a mistake by the builders-and the craziness escalates as you climb all the way up to the 30th floor, where witchy Mrs. Gorf is casting spells on her bedraggled students, one by one. But when the kids turn the tables on Mrs. Gorf, their little world only gets stranger in this fast-paced, deliriously funny adaptation of Louis Sachar's beloved series for young readers. (And remember: Miss Zarves doesn't exist! There is no nineteenth floor!)

Celebrate the holidays and recapture the spirit of an old-fashioned Christmas with the annual staging of this timeless Dickens classic with Hal Landon Jr. as the West Coast's longest-running Scrooge. Once again, Tiny Tim, Bob Cratchit and, of course, Ebenezer Scrooge himself bring 19th-century London to life in Orange County's favorite Christmas tradition.

EDUCATION PROGRAMS SCHEDULE - THEATRE CONSERVATORY

July 26 - Aug 7 or August 9 - 21
SUMMER ACTING WORKSHOP FOR KIDS AND TEENS
Young people (grades 3-12) who are newcomers to SCR's acting programs have the opportunity to get their first taste of theatre in the Summer Acting Workshop, with two sessions to choose from: either July 26 - August 7 or August 9 - 21. After completion of their session, students have the opportunity to enter the year-round Kids and Teen Acting Classes. Following Year II of the program, students may audition for the SCR Players, an advanced ensemble group whose training culminates with public performances each spring in the Nicholas Studio. All sessions are held in SCR's Education facilities within the Folino Theatre Center.
Tuition: $310, with discounts for additional siblings.

August 9 - 21
SUMMER Musical Theatre WorksHOP
Open to all (grades 7-12)-from beginners to young pros! Learn how to audition and prepare for a musical role. Learn what it means to "act" a song and "sing" a scene.
Tuition: $330.

September 20 - November 10
ADULT ACTING, PLAYWRITING AND SCREENWRITING CLASSES / FALL SESSION
Students 18 and over choose from a variety of classes developed to suit individual pace and interests. Curriculum ranges from Improvisation to Fundamentals of Acting to Actors Workshop for career-minded students. Most sessions also include classes in Acting for the Camera and Playwriting. September 14 - November 20
KIDS AND TEEN ACTING CLASSES / FALL SESSION
SCR's year-round acting program for youth (grades 3-6) and teens (grades 7-12) includes four levels of training with entry levels at all ages for students with no previous experience. After completing Year II, students may audition for the SCR Players, an advanced ensemble group whose training culminates with public performances each spring on one of SCR's stages. All sessions are held in SCR's Education facilities within the Folino Theatre Center.
