One of the reasons I became enamored of acting as a child was the opportunity to put on period costumes and to imagine I was going back in time. It's one of the giddy pleasures of being an actor-dress up! And there are few periods that are quite as distinctive and fun as the 18th century. In this week's vlog post, I have my first fitting for my John Adams costume with designer Gail Baldoni.

You now have the chance to tie the knot on the stage of one of the most well known musicals in the world, THE FANTASTICKS, the world's longest running musical, famous for its classic tale of true love, Cast members will be marrying couples of all faiths, races, & sexual orientations during the entire summer of 2014 (June 21 - September 5, 2014).

Edward Watts (Scandalous on Broadway; Superman in It's a Bird..Plane..It's Superman at Encores!), has signed on to join the cast of The Fantasticks, for two weeks only, right before its 56th anniversary on May 3, producers Al Parinello and Catherine Russell have announced. Mr. Watts will begin performances on Monday, April 28th and continue on in the role until Monday, May 12.

West End star and international recording artist Jeremiah James will be joining the cast of The Fantasticks, the world's longest running musical, on Tuesday, October 29th, just weeks after its milestone celebration of 20,000 performances in New York. Mr. James will assume the role of El Gallo, which was performed by George Dvorsky.

Kimilee, Jarlath, and Emilio have been working on this piece for over two years and Jarlath and Emilio for even longer. It takes an awful lot to get a show produced, especially in NYC! Previously known as Salute a Tutti which means 'Health to all' certainly does represent the story, however, in working on the piece, we decided on Miracolo . The story takes place on an island called 'Miracolo' where, at a beautiful spa many miracles take place (including true love) and also in Roma in a hospital and surrounding piazzas where miracles can also happen.

Sondheim Unplugged is currently celebrating the third year of it's smash run, having begun this journey of celebrating Sondheim in July of 2010.

'Sondheim: A Musical Tribute' was the title given to a benefit staged in March 1973. American Musical and Dramatic Academy and the National Hemophilia Foundation first wanted to honor Harold Prince, but he declined, so they chose Stephen Sondheim. Sondheim thought it would be 'merely a dinner,' but it was actually a full-scale production with 33 performers and a 30-piece orchestra, staged on the set of the then-running 'A Little Night Music' at the Shubert Theatre. This month, UNPLUGGED will welcome just announced guests George Lee Andrews and Harvey Evans, as well as special guests Dee Hoty, Pamela Myers, Sarah Rice & Alice Ripley. The cast also includes cabaret and Broadway veterans Trent Armand Kendall (Broadway's Smokey Joe's Cafe, Into the Woods),Award-winning vocal group Marquee 5, T. Oliver Reid (Broadway's Sister Act, The Color Purple), Julie Reyburn(MAC/Bistro/Nightlife Award winner) and Lucia Spina (Broadway's Kinky Boots, South Pacific). Sondheim Unpluggedis hosted by 54 Below's Director of Original Programming, Phil Geoffrey Bond, with Musical Direction by Joe Goodman. In 2011, Sondheim Unplugged received the 2011 Bistro Award for Outstanding Cabaret Series, and was nominated for the 2011 MAC Award.

Show Boat, the American musical masterpiece with a grand score by Oscar Hammerstein and Jerome Kern that includes the classic songs 'Ol' Man River' and 'Can't Help Lovin' Dat Man,' is now playing at the Wells Fargo Pavilion through July 14. Generally considered America's first true musical, the show has not been at Music Circus in 12 years, and this is its first time at the Wells Fargo Pavilion. The superb cast includes a Tony Award nominee and three veterans of The Phantom of the Opera on Broadway. BroadwayWorld has a first look at highlights of the show below.

I cannot imagine a better production. With Broadway talent of operatic caliber and Glenn Casale's all-encompassing direction, this summer's Sacramento Musical Theatre production of "Show Boat" is Music Circus at its absolute best.
