Hershey Felder returns to NY with his fabulous Leonard Bernstein show: Maestro

Award-winning French composer and pianist Nicolas Mazmanian will give his first piano recital in North America, French Reflections on the American Dream, at the Colburn School's Mayman Hall in Downtown Los Angeles on Friday, September 9, 2016. The program features Mazmanian's original classical compositions for piano, which invite the audience into a world of fantasy, dreams, and inner romanticism. Mazmanian's accessible melodic music reflects the strong influence of French, Armenian, and American composers.

The story and music of America's Composer come to life on stage when Berkeley Repertory Theatre stages a special presentation of Hershey Felder as Irving Berlin, a play-with-music written and performed by award-winning actor and musician Hershey Felder (George Gershwin Alone, Hershey Felder as Leonard Bernstein in Maestro). Like Robert Fairchild, the Tony-nominated originator of the role he plays in AN AMERICAN IN PARIS, dancer Dimitri Kleioris had never sung professionally before stepping in as leading man at Broadway's Palace Theatre.

Today in 1981, the second Broadway revival of My Fair Lady opened at the Uris Theatre (now the George Gershwin Theatre), where it ran for 120 performances. My Fair Lady is a musical based upon George Bernard Shaw's Pygmalion and with book and lyrics by Alan Jay Lerner and music by Frederick Loewe. The story concerns Eliza Doolittle, a Cockney flower girl who takes speech lessons from professor Henry Higgins, a phoneticist, so that she may pass as a well born lady. The musical's 1956 Broadway production was a hit, setting what was then the record for the longest run of any major musical theatre production in history. It was followed by a hit London production, a popular film version, and numerous revivals.

Both presentations are part of the Philharmonic's 'The Art of The Score: Film Week at The Philharmonic.'

Earlier this week, the Tony Award winning hit musical, AN AMERICAN IN PARIS teamed up with Steps Dance School to offer a free dance class for kids ages 8 to 12. The class allowed the kids to make their 'Broadway debuts' on stage at the Palace Theatre. Conducted by Associate Director/Choreographer Dontee Kiehn and assisted by cast members from AN AMERICAN IN PARIS including Tony nominee Leanne Cope and Associate Choreographer Sean Kelly, the students learned some of the actual Tony Award-winning choreography by Christopher Wheeldon featured in the musical. The Cleveland Orchestra has announced the program for the free community concert for the At Home in Hough neighborhood residency today, August 11, 2016 at 7:30 p.m. at East Professional Center (formerly East High School).

The New York Philharmonic's box office opens today, August 9, 2016, for the 2016-17 season.

The producers of AN AMERICAN IN PARIS, the most awarded new musical of 2015 and winner of four Tony Awards, have announced the full cast for the upcoming national tour. As previously announced, Jerry Mulligan and Lise Dassin will be played by Garen Scribner and Sara Esty, who performed these leading roles on Broadway. 

Sulie Harand Friedman, co-founder of Harand Camp of the Theatre Arts, passed away Saturday evening, August 6 at the age of 97.  Sulie was preceded in death by Harand Camp co-founders - husband Byron Friedman, sister Pearl Harand Gaffin, and brother-in-law Sam Gaffin.  In addition to her legacy as a teacher, director and businesswoman through Harand Theatre Camp, Sulie was renowned for her one-woman interpretations of classic musicals. She will be remembered for her contributions to performing arts education and lasting impact on thousands of Haranders around the world.

Broadway veterans Kirby and Beverly Ward star in Reagle Music Theatre of Greater Boston's Crazy for You, George and Ira Gershwin's musical comedy about a 1930's playboy who just wants to dance, through August 14, 2016 at the Robinson Theatre (617 Lexington St. Waltham, MA, 02452).  Ward reprises his spectacular Olivier Award-nominated role as 'Bobby Child,' the part he originated for the 1993 London premiere.  This high-energy production also stars Broadway veteran Beverly Ward (Epic Proportions, Billy Elliot ) as 'Polly Baker.' Crazy for You features flashy tap dance numbers and such memorable songs as 'Someone to Watch Over Me,' 'Embraceable You' and 'I Got Rhythm.' Original choreography by Susan Stroman, reproduced by Eileen Grace (Radio City Christmas Spectacular, 42nd Street).
